by your recent comments, you'll be much happier with a less expensive radar detector.

    Sethy,

What the hell are you using that thing for? :? It sounds to me like you're trying to ferret out every city cop where ever you live.

If you only used the V1 two days you didn't give it much of shot. Turn that damned thing off around town. No need for speeding there anyway.

Then take a road trip...a long road trip...for at least 2-300 miles. Then and only then will you ever truly appreciate the power of a V1 or any RD for that matter.

    Sethy,
From what I read, the 8500X50 falses a lot on K band too with pop turned on. When the 8500X50 falses on pop, you get a full blast warning (like laser) that could be annoying. If falsing is your main issue, the 8500X50 with pop turned off would suit you best.

My V1 is always set on L mode unless I'm highway driving. I use the A mode on highway because NJ state police use X band. State police in NJ only patrol highways and bumblefudge towns.

Go to Escortradar.com and click on detector FAQ at the bottom and this is what Escort tells you about the X50 and POP, "You may notice an increase in Ka-band false alerts when POP mode radar detection is switched on." At least with the V1.8 before POP protection, you could still detect K band POP unlike the 8500 or X50 which has to be turned on and falses all the time.

Go to Radarbusters.com and read about the Whistler Pro 73.

    X band 4.2 miles
    K band 3.9 miles
    Ka band 3.8 miles

    Detects Ka POP as well

$145 from Radar Roy which includes S/H and great advice from a true expert in the field.

$130 plus $12 S/H on an internet auction site with no support.

They can be bought for as low as $130 with free S/H but I don't know about the sellers.

If you deliver pizzas, $130-$145 is about 70 deliveries assuming you make $2 for every pizza you deliver on time. I assume you will be on time because you speed through the city disregarding peoples' lives.

You should call and have it sent back for one more try. Tell VR to refuse delivery! Do it and do it now!

Keep in mind that when you do a timed delay or automute that only applies if you don't break the threshold. Instant on radar will break the threshold immediately giving you instant warning. Also you said that you are tired of flashing arrows, that does not apply in advanced logic mode.

I know what happened! It was the 4 second delay. Not enough time personally I max out at 30 seconds. Read my prior thread.

If I turn on a delay, I can kiss my chances in catching an instant on goodbye. I did give the v1 a huge chance. I worked both days I had it, and drove about 300 miles. I think that was enough to do an amount of testing.

You guys have to unsderstand the city I live in is small and spread out, and has a 2 lane highway w/median running through the center of it, which is the main area of transportation. Dont think of it as a city, think of it as a spread out town with not very many lights.

That kind of falsing make the detector useless if you are driving on a freeway that goes through a city. When the traffic conditions are light, you can speed safely. Won't find any people to hit on the freeway, no pedestrians that might blindly walk out.

I personally have never used a V1. All I know is I drive with my POP turned on with my X50 (Never know about the new toys local MD cops might get). The POP hardly ever falses, when it does false it is usually after it has detected a constant on Ka source ahead so thats ok with me.

I based my decision to go with an X50 based on the SML test and after researching the radar detector companies as much as I could.

Interesting fact I found is that Valentine Research does not have a satisfactory rating from the Better Business Bureau.

    V1

    Closed Complaints
Number of complaints processed by the BBB in last 36 Months: 4
Number of complaints processed by the BBB in last 12 months: 1

    Escort

    Closed Complaints
Number of complaints processed by the BBB in last 36 Months: 3
Number of complaints processed by the BBB in last 12 months: 3

It looks like Escort has the most complaints in the past 12 months. It probably has something to do with the X50 plastic overheating because of all the POP falsing and those super cool blue light special lights.

You need to dig a little deeper to find something bad about the V1 dude.
