Default V1 laser false on neon sign

I was driving into a gas station parking lot the other night, and all of a sudden the V1 alerts to laser. The False seemed to be comming from the neon sign inside. I don't understand how this is possible, since laser detectors have filtering software that looks for specific pulse rates/patterns?

Red neon signs trigger the laser on the V1 cuz the red neon falls in the 904nm length that the v1 detects.... its aggrivating sometimes but the sensitivity is amazing.. so thats what we pay for.... it happpens all over bymy house so i am used to it

Exactly, Outrun (Jason) has a video of the V1 falsing to neon signs on laser.

Even though the neon sign and LIDAR are on the same wave lenghth, I thought that laser detectors looked for pulse rates/ patterns as part of the filtering software?

I'm not an expert, but I don't think that the infrared light these red neon signs emit is different from the infrared light that a laser gun uses. I don't think that there is some telltale pulse rate or whatnot that distinguishes it from "real" laser.

Some red neon installations set off my V1, but many or most don't, which leads me to believe that poorly manufactured neon devices emit this infrared, while others don't.

The Valentine has several times the laser detection ability of most or all other radar detectors, which might explain why other detectors don't alert to crappy neon installations: they can't pick up on the faint infrared light the neon is emitting.

Try going through some Checkers or Arby's drive thrus at night :-) -- they like their red neon. (Some locations set mine off, some don't. It's kinda cool.)

Mine goes off around neon, and to me it's comforting to know that the V1 has superior LIDAR detection. Chevy Trailblazers and GMC Envoys will set it off on occasion too.

I'd rather have false readings than miss 1 real alert.

Rubbish. Sooner rather than later you start assuming that the alerts a false and then you don't react quickly enough when it's the real thing.

The V1's approach to Lidar is a stupid answer to a tough question. Jammers are a much better way to go.

No one wants to miss an alert on here.

I disagree. I like V1s sensitivity to laser, the fact that it can alert me to scatter, even when I'm not being targeted.

If it is scatter, I have time to react so you can say it's okay that I've been desensitized by the falses.
If it isn't scatter and I'm actually being tagged, well, I'm already hit, so, if I don't have a jammer, what is a quick reflex going to do, anyway.

    Just my thoughts on it.

Maybe what would be better would be a radar detector that only detected to radar (no laser detection possible on the rd itself) and you put that in your windshield, and then it also had an integrated laser jammer that installs on the front, so you wouldn't have to worry about catching scatter. And you can buy it in one purchase. And was based in North America. Ah, in the ideal world. Maybe one day.
