    Default Upgrade Revision 3.802?

I would appreciate some of the collective wisdom. I just purchased a V1 with the 3.802 revision. I checked with the stickied post regarding revisions, but 3.802 apparently predates the posted information, making this unit older than late 2003. Spend the $85+ S/H to upgrade or leave it? What was changed from 3.802 to 3.813?

Most of the "Admired" users on here that have used the 3.813 believe it is by far the best v1 that has ever been released. Mostly because it is the last pre-POP v1.

Personally, not worth the $85 upgrade. Send it in and get it up to 3.813 and enjoy.

If you want the latest, I'll swap you for yours. (3.862 is what I have now)

OK SO WHAT IS IT DARN IT... I asked 3 times and everyone has told me when you upgrade you will get the latest version that v1 has to offer..
AND that you cant pick the version you want..So why are you telling him to upgrade to the 3.813 ...

Thanks for the advice. I called V-1 the first time and asked if I could send my Revision 3.802 unit in and have it "upgraded" to a 3.813. A rather brusque female customer service rep said, "No, you can only upgrade to the current revision....this isn't like an a la carte menu where you can pick and chose what you want." As you can well imagine, that conversation ended quickly. I called again and spoke with a different rep. I tried a different approach with her and just indicated I had some concerns with the unit's performance lately on some bands and that I wanted to send it in to be checked out/ tuned-up. My thinking was I'll send it for the $45 service. If they upgrade or update anything it would probably (hopefully) be upgraded to 3.813, the last pre-pop revision. That is, of course, unless they decide to upgrade it to the latest revision without my authorization. I'll update when it is returned.

I got the same thing. I had just bought my second V1, this time used from eBay, and it was not receiving much of anything. It's at VR, they've fixed it, but just this morning I spoke to the actual tech who did the repair & asked him if he can flash newer software into it. He said the only change possible is to go with the latest upgrade on offer (the POP one) and upgrade all the way. They don't have access to older versions.

You won't. . they just won't do it.

If there is a hardware change, which there is - they will NOT UPDATE YOU TO THE NEWEST FOR FREE! Even for the $45 they won't update you. You have to pay the $75 to get updated to the newest.

If he sends in his 3.802. They will repair it,it if needed, update to 3.813 and send it back. That's it. Don't send them a credit card # or anything. Send it in w/ no money, no credit card - just the description of what you want done w/ it. The tech's might call you to see if you want to pay the $85 to update to 3.862, just say no. They'll send it back with 3.813.

Ok, I'm confused. Didn't you just say that they won't update you, unless you pay the $75 (and then that will actually net you a hardware change which you may not want). But you've said that they *will* update the firmware to the latest-before-POP-version, without asking? Or is that only if there's something wrong with the firmware currently in the device?

The tech I spoke to this morning, that actual guy doing the repair, said the *only* firmware upgrade he has access to is the "latest", and that's the one for the POP hardware. If he is actually able to throw in the latest pre-POP firmware, he sure didn't say it.

Also, re: the service payment, I didn't include a c/c number or a check, but they called me after the received the device anyway and asked for one *before* they'd send it over to the techs. The only other time I sent my device back was, hmmmm, 3 years ago (not under warranty then), and then I didn't send a c/c then number either, but they repaired it for free. Maybe their policy has changed?
