    Default x - band falsing?

I've had my 3.858 for close to 6 months now and I've definitly got the best RD out there. Sure beats my old Uniden by far. But ....... theres always a but....The one problem/issue that I have is,

As I travel out of my little town and head west I get a lot of x band falsing. Now understand, this is a 2 lane highway, with nothing more than cornfields and cow-pastures. I get anywhere from 1 - 4 on the bogey counter and the strength meter never goes over 1 dot. This goes on for about 10 miles and is always shown to be behind me. And the weird thing is as I'm coming back into town in does the same thing and shows that it is still behind me? How can it be behind me in both directions? Any clues as to the cause/reasoning for this? It works great otherwise!

My unit was doing something similar, sent it in to VR. Received a call from a tech named Mike. After discussing the situation, it was determined that some cellphones (Verizon,Sprint) that use CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology will generate X band falses when they lose signal and then go into search mode to recover signal. This is not a problem with TDMA(Time Division Multiple Access) phones or GSM phones(which piggyback on TDMA).

They checked my V1(3.851), said everything was to spec, but replaced a component circuit( I do not recall which one) but it did come back as a 3.858 and seems to be working great.

I tested Mike's theory by going to a known dead area with phone on and then off. Phone on and lost/searched for signal V1 falsed on X Phone turned off no problems on X at all...repeated the process several times....Mike was right...

    Thanks bearbait
This could very well be what I'm encountering. This same area is also where my Spinit service cell phone goes into a "searching for signal" mode. I guess I'll turn off my x band whenever I head that direction.

Where do you live? You may have no need for X band at all unless you are in one of a very few states.

Sprint Samsung and LG Phones have been known to set off RDs for X-band.

I live about 50 miles SW of St. Louis. From what I've read, x band isn't used in Mo. so I'm going to turn in off and hope for the best.

X band is NOT used in Florida. I have personally seen alot of Stalker Ka in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale area.

I would turn POP off, even if I knew it was being used locally. Verifying an actual POP hit is next to impossible.

What is POP. If it is being used, why would you turn it off.
