Like people said before all bands on and pop off. Big "L" mode in the towns and routes. "A" mode on the highways. I pass by a lot of state troopers but I usually do not pick up anything. Once in a while I'll get X alerts, but I don't know if they have their radars on, just sleeping, or my detector isnt working. Also for the Big "L" mode I have the K mutes on. Still i get a good amount of falses, but I really cannot complain about the great range on the V1.

If you mute K band, will it still light up the arrow and led light if its behind you though? What if there is a real LEO coming up behind with K band?

IMO, I might recommend against Big L mode with K automute on in NJ, and even Big L in nj altogether. I've seen a lot of X in NJ especially further south like on route 40, in Big L mode you won't see the X alert until enough LEDs light up, that could set you up for a big surprise. If I can offer my programming advice after you've driven with your v1 for a little while, I personally like little l mode with the k automute, and the muted volume lever just high enough so you can at least hear some kind of alert. I like to at least see my alerts, I don't necessarily have to hear them right off.
