    Default I did

I not only tried it, but I kept both of my STi's.

    Default Virion

Virion, that is a very tough answer for me to give. They both have their pluses and minuses. I love the STi being totally undetectable and the earlier V1's (like mine) putting out less leakage on the Spectre as compaired to the newer V1's. The arrows on the V1 are awesome and helpful. The tech display on the STi is awesome and very unique. The ramp up of the V1 is 2nd to the X50 which is good. The laser detection on the V1 is the king. I find it comical that one minute the STi is beating on the ka band detection, then the next minute, the V1 is beating on the ka band detection. It's great they are both so close on ka band IMHO.

Ok I've had both and I think I can give you a bit of insight.

As someone mentioned before, the speaker should fix your loudness problems.

As for the too bright issue, there is a mode which makes the display only one letter (H on highway example). I know the buttons are lit too and I don't remember if there is away to turn those off, but maybe not. I'm guessing the front buttons are your brightness problem when driving at night and I don't know of a fix for those.

As for the ramp up, I would turn the voice prompt off, it doesn't seem as loud as the tones and during the time the it's saying the bands, the thing is probably ramping up but there is no way to tell b/c of the guy's voice. I don't know if that is actually the case, but it felt that way to me. At first I thought I'd love the voice prompts, but after experience with it, I turned out to feel differently.

I know you're looking for stealth and IMO that is the only reason to have the STi, otherwise, the V1 would be my choice.

The Sti does have the spec display though which can be very useful.

I live in Hampton Roads and work in Richmond and run my V1 constantly and never had a problem. I come across troopers all the time and not once have I gotten stopped, not to say I won't but if the Spectre is out there I haven't run across it yet. My main concern is laser around Richmond which is more prevelant than ever

Yeah, I work in Fairfax and they have basically gotten rid of almost all radar and gone to laser.
