Default V1 NOOB, What bands are used in VA?

I just got a brand new V1 and i have no experience with any radar detectors cause i live in virginia. i got it to avoid the crazy new speeding ticket law so I tried using it around but i dont know how to distinguish alerts from cops. i get alot of random x band alerts and sometimes my arrows flicker like a mad man in both directions. im not sure if it is supposed to do that or not. How can you tell me what bands are used in VA and in surrounding states like MD and NC. And any tips and tricks on how to get the most out of the radar detector would be helpful also. thanks

First off let me say by WOW awesome radar detector a v1! and you won't be dissapointed blah blah blah, but you live in virginia!!!! They're illegal and they have a radar detector detector called the spectre and idk how long before it's gonna get owned but hey you can take your chances. There is a radar detector invisible to a spectre it's called the Bel sti you may want to look into that. There are no x bands from what i know in virginia and real radar will be stronger and you'll have a longer more continious alert unless it's instant on. Good way to tell if it's a false alarm if the arrows start moving to the side quick and go back and a the arrows go crazy and door openers just suck. But if you choose to run in virgina with a v1 good luck to you i hope the cops won't find it! It really is a good detector and too bad it's not as stealthy. Oh and mount that thing high as high as you can possibly for better radar coverage and so they won't see it.

yeah I'm worried about using it in Virginia also, it was given to me as a birthday present so i really didn't have any choice. im going to be traveling through Maryland a lot so its not a complete loss. well i plan to get a real cheap detector as a decoy so if i happen to get it taken away by LEOs i can just give them the decoy. I've been looking into local cop cars to see if they have a spector and i havnt seen any, but i dont know if thats the case with state cop cars. I also heard that turning pop off will increase the range so i was wondering if i can safely turn off pop without having to worry about getting radared in maryland and virginia area. And whats the ratio of cops using instant ons and regular radar?

Turn off pop. It's a wasted feature.

I don't think there is a ratio to what cops using I/O (Instant On) and C/O (Constant On). It all depends on what the officers like doing.

I think it's the staties that have the spectre? it's an assumption. OH no the v1 isn't a total loss, infact if i got the bel sti i'd keep the v1, nothing compares to it, and instant isn't pop, pop is an instant on but it's faster don't worry about it though i'd turn it off just cause it's rare. Instant on is just turning on and off the radar beam when selecting targets. Oh and in virginia i think they don't take your radar detector away they just give you a ticket. Canada takes em away but you'll get to keep your detector. I'd still be afraid though to take that chance but i mean i've heard others use the v1 in virginia without any "run ins" but just be extra careful and hide it when needed.

I have both the V1 and the STi. Both have their plus and minuses. Once you get used to the arrows, it's damn hard to use another detector. VA mostly uses 35.5ghz Ka band and some departments still use k band and of course laser is everywhere in Northern VA. Nobody uses any other frequency ka in va except 35.5ghz. My STi is definately stronger on 35.5 ka. My V1 is king of k. The V1 falses a ton. I set up the automute as explained in the top of this forum in the sticky and it helps tremendously through town, but it's still very chatty. The STi is amazingly quite. The troopers won't take your V1, they will just write down the serial number. Although I miss my arrows and I would have to get roughly 4-5 tickets to come out ahead, I still opted to purchase the STi. Being in NOVA, I find the quietness of the STi great. If Valentine comes out with a stealth V1 then it's just a simple upgrade and I have 2 great detectors.
