    Default New Owner of V1

Like the title says, I just got my new V1 on Friday. I haven't been able to put it to good use yet but will soon.

Anyways, I have been trying to read all the FAQ's, Stickies, and Threads to try to answer my questions but some questions I couldn't find answered. So please excuse me if I ask noob questions that are probably already answered. This is my first RD btw.

    1) I live in NJ. I know radar detectors are legal but if by chance you do get pulled over, can you leave the radar detector out on the windshield and not get like a violation or something?

    2) I was reading this thread here about changing settings on the V1:

    http://www.radardetector.net/Final-V...des.-2212t.php

I am a little confused so it someone could water it down, that would be great.

    3) For NJ people or nearby states, what are good settings for the V1?

    4) Finally, I know this sounds like a dumb question (it probably is) but if you have to send in your unit for repair that's under warranty, I know you have to ship it to them. Do they reimburse you for those shipping charges and do you have to pay for shipping the unit from them back to you?

Thanks for your help in advance.

You will be less likely to get off with a warning from most cops if they see a detector on your windshield

Basically A mode responds with a tad better range according to these tests for certain bands

Don't live there, but I've heard X on, pop off

    4) Finally, I know this sounds like a dumb question (it probably is) but if you have to send in your unit for repair that's under warranty, I know you have to ship it to them. Do they reimburse you for those shipping charges and do you have to pay for shipping the unit from them back to you?

When I sent mine in just to be checked out(only a few months old), I payed shipping for sending it to them, they payed for the shipping back to me...a fair deal if you ask me....but if it's actually broke and under warranty, they might reimburse you, but don't expect them to as their warranty covers them fixing/replacing the unit, not transportation of the unit to them. I've often heard that they will match whatever shipping method you use to get it to them (e.g. overnight it to them, they will overnight it back)

Thanks for your help in advance.
Hope I was of some help, and welcome to the forum

Thanks for all your help guys. Yeah I was reading on Guys of LIDAR forums about NJ using X band so I will definitelykeep that on. Today I went driving to see if I can pick up anything but did not detect anything (didn't see any cops so I guess that's why). I also didn't mess around with any of the settings yet so basically it was straight from the box. But tomorrow I will be driving on Route 80 East and 280 so definitely should see police presence.

For me, it was the V1 or the Escort 8500 x50. But honestly, even though I hear V1 gives lots of false alerts, it does atleast have directional arrows, bogey counts, and both front and rear detection and that's why I choose the V1. (I still do prefer the Blue LED display of the x50)

If anyone has any more tips, I would be more than willing to hear them (especially NJ people). But yeah thanks again.

njsp uses c/o and i/o X band....but all bands are used in NJ including laser...if u get a laser alert its prob. gonna be from a infiniti or the tail lights of some GMC suv's...but i always slow down and then check to see wat is there...the most important thing is just pay attention to the road and look out for cops

I'm in NJ also, and just got my V1 a couple weeks ago. I can attest to the Staties here using X-band, though if you're driving around town in a suburban area, the only X you'll pick up is from automatic door openers. I have seen cops using all bands so far, but only picked up laser from a couple GMC SUV taillights. You'll probably want to leave X on, but switch to little L or big L mode when in town, but I would say always use A mode on the highway. I've also been playing with the K automute settings, which reduces falses around town or in busy areas as well. Other than that, you'll pick up pretty quickly where the falses are in your daily driving.

If you call and talk to them. . they will reimburse up to I think $10 of the shipping cost, they will normally just put the amount back on your credit card. They also do match the way you sent it to them. But, I've always sent it USPS and got it back UPS. . so if that says anything they just match the speed most likely.
