    Default Laser False Alarms

    " I Hope no one ask any more question about laser falsing with Car lights....after reading this .... " thanks [ i got this from V1 website http://www.valentine1.com/lab/Previously7.asp ]

    Red neon is occasionally used for the CHMSL (Center High Mounted Stop Lamp) on new cars. We know of these models: GM Trailblazer and Envoy, the Lincoln Mk VIII and the latest BMW 3-series convertible.

    These lights use a neon-plasma light source. The red lens allows red visible light to pass, and also invisible energy near infrared. The source is powered by a pulsating voltage on a frequency that happens to be similar to the repetition rate of legitimate laser-gun pulse trains. In other words, the CHMSLs have an invisible energy leakage that’s nearly identical to the beam used by traffic laser. If we suppress the interference, we’re likely to damage laser sensitivity.

    Another source of alarms: a few new cars have cruise controls that use laser to measure distance to the car ahead. This feature is available on the Lexus LS430, Infiniti FX35 and FX45. This, of course, is real laser, not a false alarm.

    If you’re really bothered by these alarms, you can reprogram V1 to disable its laser reception. It’s a DIY project. Here’s a link to the instructions on our website: http://www.valentine1.com/lab/mikeslabrpt3.asp

    Bad part is, you get numb to false laser alerts and could be a real one.

    Yup, me too. I think of my V1 as a situation awareness device, it alerts me when their is a possible threat from laser or radar. It provides me with the knowledge I need to make an informed decision.

    don't forget it let you know where all the gas stations , Walgreen's, Office depot ...and so on
    so you can make a decision like .... to put gas now ... or should i wait to the next K .....?

    lol

    I assumed an infiniti was anything that you might suspect would trigger a laser alert, now I see it's a type of car - just Googled it! ops:

    I don't believe we have these types of cars in the UK unless they are re-branded. Can't say the car looks familiar though, I would guess they just aren't sold in the UK.

    they are basically upgraded Nissan.

    Toyota -> Lexus
    Honda -> Acura
    Nissan -> Infiniti

    it's all about marketing

    Cheers, we have the Lexus over here, definitely no Infiniti.

    Thanks for the info.

    I got a replacement windshield recently, and now get far fewer falses when the V1 is behind the heavier tint band. The funny thing is that I'm still getting as many timely alerts when it's scatter from a real LEO Lidar (over 1/2 mile from a Laser Atlanta recently). That is, the signal strength of actual Lidar scatter seems to be higher than that of most falses. In my recent experience, the scatter from actual Lidar is plenty strong even after the crude "thresholding" of my new tint band. Unlike Radar, I'm thinking that perhaps the V1 would benefit from more Lidar electronic signal strength thresholding or attenuation. Maybe they should even make it adjustable so we can match it to our own tint bands.

    EDIT#1: The above assumes that the new tint band attenuates the Lidar signals (presumably from actual Laser diodes) the same as the non-Lidar falses (mostly from LEDs). An alternative explanation might be that the new tint band attenuates the emissions from LEDs more than the emissions from actual Laser diodes.

    EDIT#2: I guess another possibility is that the V1 is simply reacting to activated jammers in other cars rather than Lidar scatter, assuming they're really so common now (I think both the car in front of me and one going the opposite direction would have to be jammer equipped for that to make sense).

    this is what is causing me to drive for the last 16 months with no Laser on, on my V1. I drive an FX35, and it falses constantly as I posted in a recent thread.... stinks. I wonder if the other high end detectors false at these things as well.
