Default How to differentiate falsing from real threat?

It was in the evening and I was driving on a city road with lots of shops with alarms. The V1 was on A mode and got very chatty with ghosting at a red light. So I put it on mute and made it virtually silent. Moments later I saw a LEO on the opposite lane driving around with radar on. I didn't slow down since the V1 was on mute and I didn't hear any alert but the display went off like a Christmas tree. I got lucky this time as the LEO was just driving around. What's the best way to avoid a situation like this when you think it's falsing but in fact it's a real threat lurking behind? Thanks!

Listen for the bogy lock tone for sounding new threat, real radar is much stronger.
    Was LEO K or Ka?
Do you really need X on?
Have you tried K band automute at 4 LED's?
Turn the V1 off and stay within the limit.

I've had occasions where I would pull into a supermarket with multiple k-band bogeys and muted the v1, and after leaving it wouldn't sound to a ka-band threat behind me, just staying muted no bogey lock tones or nothing

Another option most people do not know about, if you press the mute button twice at the onset of an alert it will cancel the bogy lock tone.
That is what both of you must have done.
Careful not to cancel that protection if you need it.

Thanks for the heads up, as I was going to mention that my new experience I had muted a false but the V1 chirped alerting to a new source.

As far as distingishing falses, as far as automatic doors, they will be close by, another threat over a longer distance should be taken seriously.

Would it make much difference to the falsing if I switch to small L or big L mode? Thanks!

Sure, I would use small L when I'm driving where I know. Just set the remote volume to low, you will still get the visual alert and the audio alert will just take on the remote volume until the 4 dots are passed.

You will need to switch option 7 on then set the arrows in b,c and d http://www.valentine1.com/lab/MikesLabRpt3.asp to the delay you want before your V1 alerts. I don't live in a "noisy area" and find 20 seconds is fine, if I'm driving in areas I don't know I switch back to "A" mode which overrides your little L settings.

What you are doing here is suppressing the alert for a given amount of time when in little L mode. Big L gives you no indication at all, neither audio or visual until you surpass 6 dots on the strength meter.

I tend to drive through the same areas over and over again, so I know when the falses go off and how strong they are. It's sort of like I've got the 9500i's GPS filtering in my brain

    Experience helps.

How will small L and big L handle the alert when they pick up I/O or laser? Thanks!

Laser isn't affected, I/O will act the same as C/O. You won't get a full alert until the settings you have set have been passed.

Little L should be fine, just set the mute volume so it is audible but not loud enough to annoy you, and if you have the display in line of sight you will see the display kick in anyway.
