    Default Muting questions

Hi guys. I’ve been using a V1 for about a year on factory settings but I have a few questions. First of all I have a question about the mute button. If I am driving past the supermarket and the K band goes off, if I hit the mute button and then I get hit with KA by a cop, will the KA sound also be muted or will it continue to “beep” ?

The Ka alert will be heard loud and clear, despite the muted K alert.

xoch1 this has nothing to do with your question, but in case you still have any doubts about how different programming options work, see here:
    http://www.radardetector.net/Final-V...des.-2212t.php
RacerX did a GREAT job explaining how V1's rear K-band Auto-Mute and other settings work. That's the most detailed explanation of V1 programming options on RD.net.
It's well worth reading it.When I got V1 that thread helped me A LOT,to understand V1 programming options.

BTW,if you didn't know, when V1 is alerting,if you press mute button twice, you also mute Bogey Lock tone, when another "bogey" is detected.I didn't know that,I just find out that recently

I think you are confusing the OP's question with K-band programmable automute.

For the OP's case, after you hit the mute button ONCE, a new incoming alert will sound the bogey lock tone (BEEP-BEEP) at full volume and ONE beep of the alert tone at full volume, then resume at the muted volume. This allows you to be notified both of the new alert and what band it's on, then go back to muting.

Pressing the mute button TWICE causes everything to happen at the muted volume.

Thanks for all the responses guys. Yeah I was wondering if the KA kept on beeping or if it would become muted along with the K.
But here is my actual dilemma. I like to run all settings on (except pop) for myself in A mode for when it’s just me in the car. But when my wife is with me she gets irritated with all the falses on X and K (lots of supermarkets and alarm systems ect around here) and makes me turn it down or off. :x So I’m looking to quiet this thing down so she doesn’t get all bent out of shape every time we take my car somewhere. I can turn X off I think because in the year I have had the V1 I have never encountered a leo with X around here. (still makes me nervous to turn it off but I can learn to live with it). I’ve only had 2-3 K encounters with state troopers but other then that, most troopers and all my city cops use Ka. So I need to keep K band on but I definitely need to quiet it down a little. So I been looking at the whole K auto mute feature. I got that web page that shows how to do the programming but I don’t really understand or know what I should set it on. I was wondering how all you V1 experts like to set your K mute settings?

Honestly I don't recommend shutting off any band on a detector that can track all incoming alerts. It'd be really silly if you get a ticket thanks to 20-year-old radar equipment that a $40 detector could've saved you from, wouldn't it?

Using little L mode with K automute 30s + 6-bar will quiet the thing down significantly, but apart from that I really don't recommend oversuppressing alerts. The job of the detector is to keep you aware of the radar signals in your surrounding the same way that your eyes keep you aware of the visible signals in your surroundings. Turn the volume down to a volume that you the driver can hear but doesn't sound like a fire alarm to everyone else, and as long as you do that your passengers shouldn't complain.

Ok im learning alot. But just 1 more question. you mentioned 30s + 6bar. Does that mean it will start to audio alert at 30 seconds OR 6 bars?
And is 6 bars ok or is it safer at 4 bars?

If either condition is met, the detector will unmute. The V1's muting is kind of the inverse of what you see with other detectors. The alert comes in at the quiet volume, then if certain conditions are met the alert is upgraded to full volume.

4 vs 6 bars depends on your level of attention to your detector. If you find that you don't notice an alert even exists till it unmutes, then you should keep it at 4 bars. If you can notice the alert even at muted volumes, 6 bars will keep it quieter for your passengers. Definitely if you only begin to notice the alert at 6 bars, your warning distance will be tight though not fatally so.
