Is there anyway to trigger a KA signal other than finding a cop or using your own radar gun?

Just got the v1 about 3-4 wks ago and I've seen every band aside from Ka and it makes me wonder if I got a defective unit or if I'm paranoid. I'm in California and I'm pretty sure Ka is used by the chp.

You'd need a Ka radar source. A junky detector may cause the V1 to trigger on Ka.

Chances are if it's detecting other bands it'll detect Ka no problem. It uses the same circuits for all the bands, it operates a bit like a radio scanner to scan multiple frequencies.

Yes, CHP seems to pretty much use 100% Ka. Where do you live? Maybe it's a combination of being a lightly patrolled area, and you getting real lucky. Go drive around the local CHP station and you should eventually pick something up. Or around courthouses where they might be driving. And, accident scenes, they often leave their radar on low-strength to give warning to detector users (cool).

Drive up to Dublin, and around the CHP station. They also tend to eat meals at Carrow's on Dublin Blvd.

Consider your self lucky you live in the bay area as it seems that we get away with a lot.
For a shot of Ka make a trip up Hwy 17 to Santa Cruz, a drive to Gilroy, Garlic festival this weekend.
Here is a guaranteed one Vasco Road from Livermore to Brentwood.
Ka shots in the back can be found at the American Canyon overpass at Hwy 80 to Sacramento.
Top of the Altamont Pass rest stop Livermore to Tracy.

Just be careful if you head up towards Valejjo and the Solano area, since CHP is using Laser there.

I also live in San Jose. The only time I encountered CHP using their radar is during accident. Aside from that CHP just sneak up on you, so you must constantly check your rear view mirror.

If you want to test your KA, V1 Dave has got it right with Hwy 17. I always see a speed trap just after the fixed radar going to Santa Cruz. Also, SJPD, I notice, sets up a speed trap at Beryessa every couple of days. They are between 680 exit and Jackson. It's easy to speed there because you're downhill from bridge overpass or just exiting the freeway.

Once you hear the sound of KA, you'll never forget it.

Hopefully, i'll see it work as I head to southern california later this week. If not, i might have to send it back to v1 for them to look at it.

You're right about CHP sneaking up on people, had two of them crawl up behind me yesterday on the 880 and the v1 was silent.
