Hey guys , Everyone says try not to speed with out a Rabbit, well i got a Question. Lets Say you Do find a Rabbit and your following him, and lets say it was to late to slow down per say. The Cop Pulls out and such, wouldn't be easier for the cop to nail you since your closer or would the cop proceed to catch the rabbit. I always wondered since i was closer and speeding he would catch me instead?

Stay 1/4 mile or so behind your rabbit. Let him speed run for you.

I have always a seen a cop go after the first person. The cop has to be very very lazy to just go after those that are trailing behind, the officer typically did not get there speed anyway so it would be unjust to do so.

However I have seen a cop pull over a entire group of cars, so bottom line, drive appropriately with the situation. Driving too far behind a rabbit and the rabbit can possible just let off the gas, and lo and behold you are the speeder. Its a grey area how close to follow, each circumstance is different, you have to make the call. Obviously dont tail gate and becarefull not to lag behind or you will loose the advantage. Again it depends on the road and traffic.

I've heard some people preach 1.2 mile following distance. I think that's too far. I try to make sure they are just far enough away that I can still see they're brake lights when they go over an overpass or around a corner. Generally 1/4 mile to 500 ft.

Rabbit distance for me varies based upon ambient conditions (raining? might want to give a bit more distance, just-in-case), traffic (dense? might want to close-in to avoid losing the rabbit), perceived driver skill/safety (signals or otherwise indicates intent? safer to close-in, if need be), etc.

What's perfect in one case might not be for the next.

And yes, there's always the risk of the enforcer who just goes after the last person in the train - or, alternatively, for a closing rear-incoming enforcer to simply pick you up, first. That's just risk of the territory -> he's responsible for the forward threats, you're responsible (if you're the last person in the train) for the rear.

Two weekends ago, setting out for Chicago (from Cleveland), I used an AMG S65 as rabbit, and gave him well over a 1/3 of a mile of lead distance in the then sparsely-trafficked suburbs. As we entered the more urban areas, I closed in - at one point to no more than 5 car-lengths (we were going about 75 MPH at the time, in a 50 zone) behind (which pushed both the edge of safety as well as the edge of someone aggressive being able to cut-in between us).

After he pulled-off, I followed a Lexus with a Blue-Hair'ed couple in it, the man driving had a V1 on the windshield.

what happens if there's no rabbits? don't speed?

I usually use other drivers as shields although they're going slower

What if the only rabbit you can find is a granny in a slow Buick and you are in a sports car? Wouldn't the LEO selectively target you first?
