    Default New V1..Question on temperature..

After living with my Escort 8500 for several years and Laser becoming more and and more on my drive to work I did quite a bit of research on the high end detectors.
I made the decision to go with the V1 based on information on the forum specifically the better in the laser department.
One of my co-workers owns a new Beltronics STI Driver which I was able to use for a day.
The unit was far more sensitive than my 8500 and built like a tank but I just kept going back to the V1.
The unit came yesterday very nice build quality after driving with the unit in "A" mode to learn the sensitivity I have to agree this is one of the most sensitive units I have hung on the dash.
K and KA as well as X band ranges are greater than anything I have used, needless to say the arrows are very nice.
I have one question regarding the units heat sensitivity me being in Texas. I have searched and read a bit on this most newer units (STI) which have circuitry which will shut the unit down if the unit is overheated.
Has the V1 been updated with some form of overheat protection which protects the unit from damage?
I am taking the unit off the windshield when parked so hope this helps. I have heard this is a weak point of the unit.

Need information form the experience of the V1 owners for information.

    Many Thanks,
    MarvC

yea once your v1 gets too hot it will stop working..the best thing to do is take it down when you get out of the car and put it in ur glove box(so its out of the direct sun and so no one can see it). also, when you are driving keep an a/c vent on the v1

Will it permanently damage the unit or is it just a safety and will reset?

Whether or not there is damage, and to what extent, is usually a widely debated topic. Some people associate their detector "going out of tune" to being left out in the sun too long. And that is indeed a permanent form of damage.

Regardless of whether or not it is truly related, taking down the detector when the car is unoccupied is a good idea for other reasons, too.
