Default Person with X50 on Thruway

There was a person with an X50 today on the Thruway in some new Mitsubishi sports car racing a BMW 5 series, so I figured I'd use them as a rabbit. The BMW lost us, so later on, the person with the X50 brake checked a bunch of cars because a K band drone was up ahead. From travelling the area a lot, I knew it was coming soon, but then my V1 started alerting at around the same spot he started braking.

Then I passed him since he didn't know it was a drone and then we both sped back up. I started getting Ka and slammed my brakes and then I noticed him doing the same (he was in the other lane, not too far behind me)... so he probably got the alert at the same time. It ramped up quick since a Trooper was driving on the other side coming towards us around a sharp curve. I got 3 bogeys.

I always thought the V1 was a lot better than the X50, but it seemed we were being alerted at the same time. Should I send my V1 in for a checkup? Not sure if it seems as sensitive as it used to be.

I still got an amazing 1.5 mile Ka range when a Trooper had someone pulled over and was right behind them. Normally I don't get good range if their gun is being blocked by a car in that situation. It was around a turn too.

I can tell you for sure I just got rid of an 7500s and tried an 8500 X50 there is no comparison of the sensitivity of the V1 is just that good of a unit.
Mine is way ahead of the 8500 from Escort. I sent the 8500 back for a 9500i to be used in my wifes car.
Tested both the V1 and 9500i on the K band drone the (not powered on together) V1 beat the 9500i by around 200 feet on the first detection. I have not seen anything like the V1.
Depending on the age of your unit and if you have a spare RD a checkup certainty could not hurt.

I have had mine going on 3 weeks with 3.864 and not an expert on the unit by a long shot.
The other car may have been reacting to your braking but between the units I described above the V1 is the most sensitive.
Have you noticed any changes in the sensitivity during your day to day route driving???

I was up there a couple days ago and got poor around the corner performance with my STI also several times. I think your alert was limited due to the conditions (around a corner, trees in the median etc) more than V1 poor performance. I feel most of the top detectors would have alerted at the same time in that situation. The area Im talking about is I-90 from the Penn line to New Albany.

Well, it's not a lot better than the X50. I've owned both detectors at some point or another and have seen similar results from them.

Don't get me wrong; the V1 is technically a bit better. Lab results say so. But when it comes to real world performance, you're basically splitting hairs.

Your right. I also had X50 too for 4 months before I got V1. I was not happy at all with the X50 Off-Axis Detection since if there were a Cop hiding and the Radar Gun facing the Road and my X50 didn't alert until he got my speed. This was on K Band which should be very easy to detect. I'm simply not happy about it on X50 but the straight detection is great. I guess thats how other RD performs too except V1. V1 Off-Axis Ka Detection had to be much better than X50 on K Band Detection.

I like to use it every once awhile but I don't trust it as much as V1.
