V1 install in a UK Cadillac
Recently got a new car, a Cadillac BLS Luxury and last night managed to get the V1 hardwired in with the slim CD and mute button installed here's some photo's
1st is the mute button
2nd the Slim CD tucked nicely in the corner of the dash/screen
3rd The V1 mounted just behind the RVM but leaving enough for the rear radar
4th the view from the drivers seat.
Nice install... very nice actually. The only thing I would do different is the placement of the actual V1. It is just a bit too in the open, and there is too much wire there for me... but either way its a nice set-up, make sure u take it down though, because it is in plain site.
I've just got to tidy up the wire and it was getting a bit late when we finished last night I'll finish it off at the weekend.
But I'm very happy with it went for a spin before and it was just right for me. saying that I may move the mute button a bit more over to the right side of the air vent.
Good thing there is a concealed display for the V1, or else the passenger would have to interpret the alerts for our friends in the UK.
Very nice RMP. I was looking at putting mine in a case permanantly on the flip down visor so i wouldn't need to take it down, but my roof slopes a hell of alot so would need to mount it like you have to get the rear radar.
Just curious, but how useful do you find the V1 (or any radar detector for that matter) in the UK? I get the impression that there is a lot greater use of cameras and laser and other unattended /non-radar sources than here in the US (at least at the moment). I think the Gatso cameras work on K band, but is this really about all you can defend against with an RD in the UK? Appreciate the education!
ah i did not see that you from england at first..the right hand steering wheel had me a little confusednice install but mount that v1 as high as possible!

yes Gatso's run on K band over here and the V1 works great with them.
I used to have a Bel Euro 550 and that was great on gatso's but the V1 beats it hands down.
We also have Ku band over here, people will say we dont but I have seen it in use with my own eyes and I know it's out there.
Under the Freedom of Information Act I have requested info on radar from the local Police depts and they have to reply within 21 days or face fines.
I have email confirmation that they are using radar for traffic police as well as laser.
North Wales police have confirmed to me that they use radar in different devices but will not confirm which bands.
I fell naked with out a radar detector in the car as I've been driving with one since 1990.
They are trying to ban radar detectors here and for one reason to bring them back in moer over laser I believe as the units will be cheaper to buy.
If they do ban them I'll get a STi Driver !
Do the STI's detect Ku or is there different versions?
