J?

So I got my V1 in the mail today and got to try it out on my way to my gfs. Excuse my noobish questions. I tried searching for J and J'd but couldnt find anything.

What does it mean when the V1 displays a J? I dont mean the programming section but when I have it set to AUTO (A) and a "J" shows up for a split second or two and disappears.

I also got 3 lines for a split second or two also. I assume thats a laser? I didnt see any LEOs so I assume this could be caused by a Audi?

J is "junk" it means the V1 initially alerted to something but then determined it was a junk signal. I see lots of posts here about multiple J's but I hardly ever get them. I got one last night and honestly the sound it made was not familiar to me because I get them so rarely.

The 3 lines were laser and may have been a false. When my V1 was windshield mounted I would get them from Chevy Trailblazers quite often.

Thanks. I knew what the 3 lines were from reading posts and other websites but I've seen post saying that their V1 were J'd but didnt know what it really meant.

BTW, my V1 is 3.872

Also, I got the concealed display and I got a normal phone cord and tried to connect it but it didnt work. I connected the 3" cable that came with it and it worked. Its probably the phone cord as the tabs were kind of damaged...but I just wanted to make sure that I can use any normal house phone cord.

Also remember that "A" mode is not Auto, it's "All Bogeys". For the phone cord, you have to make sure you got the right kind, you have to make sure they were wired the same as the original V1 cord, but what I want to know is why you would want to use anything other than the original V1 cord anyway?

If you don't want to hear a slight rant, then skip this:

All you your questions can be answered simply by reading the manual that came with your V1. When I assembled my computer, I was told to read the motherboard manual 3 times, cover to cover, before I even took the MB out of the anti-static bag. I did; nothing blew up, all the caps are good, nothing shorted, and I knew where all the connectors/ports were, or if I didn't, I knew on page 6 that there was a guide to all the connectors/ports.

In the V1 manual...

Page 26, at the bottom, it tells you exactly what the 'J' means,

Page 20, last line, you have to guarantee that the wires in the RJ-11 are reversed from one end to the other.

Page 15, near the bottom, left column, three lines means laser warning.

Page 15, near the bottom, left column, the A is All-Bogeys (R) mode, not auto, as languy said. Auto would be an l/L.

I'm not saying that these questions are dumb or stupid, just unnecessary. IMO, if you can't take 10 minutes to read the manual, the RD is too sophisticated for you.

Thanks. I feel the cords that came with them are too long. The 3" is too short as I plan to mount the concealed display right above my compartment and HVAC controls.

Not offensive. I know how the general rules of forums are (been on them for years and moderated a couple). So this I take the blame. I'm also the type that doesnt read the manual.

I've owned a Beltronics STi, read the V1's site as well as the sticky on the mute and settings. I did that right after I got out of work and hooked everything up to my car. So I've done my research but not on the minor things like the "J" and I knew what the 3 lines were but wanted to make sure.

Yes, "A" is all bogey but use to the AutoScan on the STi. Also have the V1 set up for city by setting it on the little "L"

I dont get about the reverse of cable if i want to make my own. I'll see if there is any posts on this.

I wasnt too fond of it. Plus, I didnt need all the bells and whistle. I dont mind the false alerts that comes with the V1 cuz I can ignore it or lower the volume or set it up to mute for a certain amount of time.

I wanted something more sensitive and the arrows were a plus. I actually wanted to get this for a long time but for whatever reason, I though it costs more than $400. Than again, at the time, I probably thought it was too much money to invest in this and it was a couple of years ago.

I dont get about the reverse of cable if i want to make my own.

When I hardwired my V1, I used the original V1 cord but I cut it down to the exact length I needed, then crimped on a new RJ-14 connector on the cut end.

The key is to keep the colored wires "straight through" from one end to the other. This means the order of the colored wires will be reversed from one end to the other if you hold the two plugs side-by-side. I don't remember the exact order offhand, but if one end is (from left to right) Yellow Green Red Black, the other end will by Black Red Green Yellow. Look closely at the OEM cords and you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.
