    Default A,l, and L modes

I was wondering if anyone here could tell me; do you notice any difference in reduction of false alerts by the V1 when using advanced logic mode, with the x band still on? If so, does this significantly reduce the chance of you being alerted on a real threat? If not, would only disabling the x band reduce the falses? Thanks in advance!

Yes the logic modes will impact the alerts you receive to varying degrees (check out your manual):

    A-Mode: Reports everything.
Little L: mutes 'weaker' X-band signals (you may want this)
L-Mode: This eliminates all but the strongest X-band alert (you may also want this).

Those are great 'generic' modes for the average user but:

Your best bet is to check out your manual, and then start to customize your settings from there (IE: K-band muting, and various other program options the V1 offers)...

Where do you live? (X-band is almost never considered a threat anymore), but I would personally be weary of turning it off... especially in states like NJ.

Personally I have tried every combination in the book to get the V1 to be acceptable in my city, and I just couldn't find it... so I just use it in 'A' mode with POP-off for highway only. So I haven't messed with the settings in a fair amount of time:

Some other V1 users use only a V1, so they have set theres up in preference to their areas... they will most likely chime in when they see this.

What would be best settings for NYC? I currently have mine set up like that in the stickied post.

I'm from Cleveland, Ohio. I believe they still use x band radar guns around here, but I assume K and Ka bands are used more. I'm basically trying to figure out what's the best way to keep the thing from going off so much w/o significantly causing it to not alert me to a real threat.

Just kidding, of course. On the surface streets I usually have the volume turned all the way down and keep it on "L", since I pretty much stick to the PSL anyway. Otherwise it gets very tiresome very quickly. There are way too many false alerts on all bands in any of the modes. (I leave X on since I drive to/through Jersey all the time.)

On highways I usually leave it in L too, unless I am south of exit 10 on the Turnpike or above the city in NY State. Out in the country it's "A" coupled with aggressive vigilance.

In NJ they still use X band, and it's quite common to come across it. I used Big L here the other day, and while it did pretty well against C/O X band touting LEO's, I'm afraid to use it often. There have been many times the V1 has sniffed out I/O X on my commute, and if I were running in Big L at the time I would've missed the initial alert, driving right into the speed trap. I would think that the only other alternative to running in Big L (if you want/need less 'falsing') is to use Little L, and just turn the muted alert lever all the way down.

X band is still used extensively by the North Carolina Highway Patrol. Keep that in mind if you ever drive through the state.
