    Default Now a v1 Owner

Ok, so as an avid Radar Detector user, I've obviously made it known the notoriety of the V1 to my spouse. Whom after many months of hearing my side comments and also using Radar Detectors herself, decided she was going to surprise me with a V1. I'm on a business trip in Chicago right now and it arrived two days ago. She sent a picture of it to me on my cell phone with the text " :-o ". I freaked out. However, bless her heart, and her intentions, she used fleabay, so I pray it works. She tried it out on the way to her work and she said it made no sounds at all, on two trips. She was in Big L mode though so mayhaps she just didnt run accross any radar sources that it thought were legit to report. I told her to hold in the knob button to change to an "A" mode for All bogeys and maybe it will improve, but she said it still didnt make any sounds. Still doesnt prove anything, I will have to give it a good test when i get back in town to find out how things look.

I figure though, for the price she did get it for, even if i have to take it to Valentine Research to get repaired it will still be a steal. Plus Valentine Research sits, literally nextdoor to the Cincinnati location of my work office, and I am down there every couple of weeks doing stuff ANYWAY.

I shall post when i know the fate of my V1!

She already wants one, so thats not even a problem, lol. She said even though she didnt know if it was operating right she felt invincible when she was driving home. I was like dang imagine if you knew it was working, shes like i know. I go, maybe we need to get another... shes like... "Right!?"

Did she call VR and verify that the S/N wasn't stolen?

If it doesn't work, just call VR (assuming its not stolen) and they'll fix it better than new.

No I dont think she went that far, however it was being sold by a seller with several thousand feedbacks and a business of his own that he was selling it under, so you'd think the stolen thing wouldn't be an issue, but, i suppose not completely impossible, just highly unlikely.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but V1s typically go for a lot on ebay. So I'm willing to bet that yours is either screwed up somehow or maybe even an older 1.7. Good news is that a tuneup/repair from VR is pretty cheap.

I got my V1 on Craigslist and it was hosed. For $100 including shipping VR updated it to the latest rev for me. That cost might have gone up a bit since they changed to 3.87* though.

Anyway, good luck and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Its a 1.8... she sent me a pic remember? And i am aware of the $45 tuneup price if its basic. But like i said, i'll have to test it further.

Next time you dont want to rain on someones parade, just dont bother... Captain Negativity
