Default Is cold bad for the Valentine One

i was just reading the other theard about if you take your rd down. Well I dont and sometimes I leave my car outside rather then putting it into my garage and it gets real cold around here like in the 20s, and I was wondering I know sun and heat is bad, but what about the cold. Would this be a problem.

It's nto as bad as the heat, but still. Why abuse it? What you really have to worry about is the condensation. It freezing cold, then you get your car turned on and it heats up rapidly. Now you've got condensation.

True, but like beatlesfan said it's not the temp., but the moisture.

V1's are majorilly effected by heat. So I have gotten in the habit of never leaving my V1 in my car.....BUT in the colder months my V1 seems to perform better while cold

I am a big fan of at least putting a RD inside an appropriately sized padded camera case. With all of the padded camera case designs being produced for the plethora of point-and-shoot digital camera models, its easy to find a padded case which will fit just about any RD model quite nicely. The padding in the camera case provides quite a bit of insulation which will protect the RD from getting either excessively cold or hot if you then stash the RD/case either in your glove box or under a car seat.

Even when placed inside a padded camera case a RD still may get some condensation on it when you pull it out of the case and mount it to your windshield after a cold night. If there is condensation on the RD's exterior, then for sure there will be a very small amount of condensation which will form on the interior electronics. And this of course leads to corrosion. So, on really cold nights, always bring your RD indoors with you so that your RD will have a happy and long life.

Well, it does get cold up here in MN! I have had my Valentine in the car since I bought it a couple of winters ago and as far as I can tell it is working fine. Condensation would be more of a concern if I brought it inside the house while cold.

Also, suction cups are holding up fine at all temps (changed to the ones you guys recommended from Michaels' craft store) but I do know that reattaching them to a cold windshield is almost impossible.

Reattaching the suction cups to a cold windshield can be done if you:

-- Take your finger and either rub the sides of your nose or dig into your ear to get some skin oil/wax onto your finger.
-- Then smear said oil/wax all around the periphery of the suction cups before attaching them to the cold windshield.

This usually works unless it is so bitterly cold that the suction cups instantly become extremely non-pliable when attached to the windshield.

Nothing like "getting back to nature"with your RD.
