What causes the V1 to false near my 9500i?

Before you start the bashing, I'm well aware you can't do accurate tests running 2 windshield mounted units in the same vehicle. Just for the hell of it I wanted to run my 9500i and V1 on opposite extremes of my windshield. It seemed to work in some YouTube vids, yet my V1 constantly falses on K band as soon as the 9500i is plugged in, and stops when you disconnect the 9500i. So my question is what causes this? The 9500i doesn't false at all, and why are others able to run them together? I tried all different locations but it didn't matter. Does the 9500i actively put a signal out? Thanks

It doesn't try to, but it's just a byproduct of how it operates. The V1 does too, but either the 9500 has been programed to reject the exact frq, or the V1 "leaks" on a non-LEO frq. (I suspect the later)

The Ci, Sti and STi-R have a lot of extra engineering, (and expense) to reduce leakage to almost nothing.

Wonder why those on YouTube could do it. I was under the impression only cheaper cobra type units leaked like that. From seeing these do it, I assume cheaper units do it worse.

Yeah the cheaper units would have a lot more leakage and over a greater distance.

u can put a v1 face to face with an STi...literally horn to horn and it will not false...at least mine do not

make sure you have pop off on both, it did the same thing with mine.

Yep my V1 falses X-band when I turn on my BEL v995. If I ever want to run both detectors I have to turn off X-band on the V1

Though running two detectors at the same time hurts both of their performance

ALL superheterodyne receivers are actively transmitting a local oscillator frequency. It's a byproduct of how they work.

Well the 9500i seems to have leakage that has harmonics in K-band. The V1 alerts to any K-band source that lasts longer than 200ms per pulse, and the 9500i must be setting it off.

The 9500i isn't going off because it has a longer filter duration (closer to 1000ms) and it's likely the V1 does not produce any K/Ka band leakage, considering how much Mike Valentine moans and groans about it on the VR site.


ALL detectors take active measures to filter out leakage from other detectors.
