yep...Thats why i don't recommend people get a V1 just for its laser capability

Mounting your RD high by the RVM is good for radar, but not good for lidar, you are less likely to hit scatter when it is that high, they aim the lidars for the license plate or headlights. But I choose to mount my RD high because I care more about getting a rader warning then a laser warning.

    Actually, thats not fully true...

A RD that is mounted high will have a better chance of picking up scatter off of cars ahead, but will be less likely to warn you when you are being hit.

Also mounting high (behind the tint for most cars) can even make the V1 perform better (less junk light interfering with alerting to rear lidar threats.)

Even Mike V recommends mounting high for laser.

That's not really the one-liner you were supposed to pull from that 2-page tech report on the tradeoffs between mounting high and mounting low. Let's not revisit this again.....

As I said, there is a 2-page discussion of mounting position tradeoffs and variables, and at the end of it Mike V gave his personal opinion that mounting high is better given the above situations. The point is not MOUNT HIGH or MOUNT LOW, the point of that entire article is WHY do one over the other. Particularly considering that this OP was concerned that the V1 missed a direct-hit, it would've been better to quote or paraphrase relevant discussion from Mike V's tech report than to just state as a matter-of-fact Mike V says to mount high.

I can easily shoot my car with my PLII within 500ft and not set off my V1. I've driven through many laser speed traps without my V1 making a peep. I have never had my V1 alert to a real laser trap prior to my car being the actual target. I know it happens, but it has never happened to me.

How come V1 picks up all the Infiniti's with LCC without fail but not LIDAR?
