Smile Re: V1 better than Whistler?

Check out the stats and then decide how much you need vs. what you want to pay. I think a $150 Whistler will do most things well, but if you want the best protection, spend the $500 on the V1. (Surprisingly to me, there doesn't seem to be much difference in the price points between the two.)

I must make the point that, unlike most "opinion" sites where everyone thinks whatever he owns is the best of all possible worlds, there seems to be a fair amount of honesty and scientific data on this site to support claims people make. Thanks for all the work you guys put in and helping me buy my first radar detector since my 1970's Fuzzbuster!

Oh, $500? Guess you're bought one of those specially programmed V1s!

I think when you see sites offering the V1 for sale a lot of times that is to sell them overseas, since Valentine does not.

The Pro78 rev C's raw Ka band sensitivities are about 2dBm better than shown in the chart for the Pro78 rev B. My real world experiences with the Pro78 rev C are that it consistently provides very good alert times as long as the radar gun is pointed more or less in the direction of your car. This is because, even though the Pro78 is a bit weak in raw sensitivity, it also features Mike B's newly patented technology which allows it to double-check any faint whiff of radar just a few milliseconds later to see if it is still there. The Pro78 doesn't have really good real world performance against forward-facing radar, simply because its raw Ka band sensitivities don't allow it to begin "seeing" a forward-facing radar gun until you get closer to the forward-facing radar gun. Yet on the road when any distant radar gun is pointed in the general direction of your car then the Pro78 will see it.

As I have commented before, the Pro78 rev C (and now the new XTR-695) is the only other radar detector aside from a Bel, Escort, or V1 which I trust to provide me with really good protection while on the road.
