Got a Ticket...NY 80MPH

Guys,

Got the V1 as a Christmas gift and love the thing to death, have driven nearly 1,000 miles with it already. Up until today has saved me three times. However today I received a ticket from a NY state trooper. The series of events unfolded like this, he was radioed by a off duty cop that was pacing me and flew up behind me and clocked me at 80 mph in a 65 mph. He turned his KA radar gun when he was nearly 50 feet from me and the idiot I am wasn't paying attention what was behind me because i was playing with the sirus satellite radio. The V1 went nuts, I looked up then behind and realized it was all over for me.....I was going down...I just thought I wanted to share that with you guys and was wondering how much this baby is going to be. Because oddly enough it doesn't say the cost of the ticket? ON the drive home I saw three more troopers and their victims so it made me feel a little bit better about all of this.

THEY drive as fast as they please while off or on duty, and it's "ok." =( He must have been really desperate to help his buddy write an extra traffic ticket.

Don't know for sure how much it will cost you. I would guess somewhere between $150-200.

you're blaming the officers for him getting a ticket while speeding?

sorry to hear of your ticket...but at least you realize and admitted you were at fault.

No, of course it's not the officer's fault. I just am irritated by the fact that an OFF DUTY cop felt the need to call in someone who was merely speeding. Not denying that the original poster was breaking the law - he was.

They could of used pacing, didn't need the ka hit to give you a ticket.

Situational awareness is key to driving, I think half the time I am driving I have an eye in the rear review mirror.

There's not much you can do to avoid being paced, besides being vigilant and learning the headlight patterns for cop cars.

No idea what the fine will be like, but you might wanna go to court and see if you can plead it down at all.

ny is nuts...my dad said he was on 87 going to lake placid last weekend and picked up 6, yes 6, nysp running i/o and c/o Ka

I got nailed in NY Thruway for 83 in a 65 with Laser, V1 was still new and the tones not familiar to me, especially laser and i took WAY too long to react to it. Doesnt matter anyway, MOST likely, with those dead eye thruway cops, the guy had my speed fast enough that even had i reacted i was toast. but that's neither here nor there, youre after a possible total ticket cost and I would guess somewhere between 200 and 250, especially if your out of state. They throw a "Surcharge" on there after the ticket total. Dont ask me what the Surcharge is, it doesnt say it just simply says "Surcharge". Not "Processing surcharge" or even "state surcharge" or anything... just simply "surcharge". Which leads em to believe its the "out of state driver, he wont want to come back to contest because it will cost him more in gas then to just pay this ticket surcharge". My ticket was $175 + $85 surcharge for a grand total of $260. NY traffic citations can suck it.

The good news is, if you start socking away $30 or $35 a week until you get the ticket, you'll probably have close to enough to pay it when it arrives. It took 6 weeks for mine to come after i sent in the ticket to the court. Course that was through the holidays, so maybe 4 - 5 weeks for yours? hard telling, but thats what I would expect. Where are you from, like how far from where you got the citation do you live? You still in NY? Out of state? The further away you are the more the surcharge will be im sure, lol.
