Look for a known K or X band auto door opener that you're familiar with. Check the distance and location at which your V1 will alert to these bands specially after tune up and make a mark. Over time, electronics get out of tune and V1's weakness is heat. I always point one of my air vents to where I mount my V1. If your V1 is not in use, put it in the glove box. This will lengthen the life of your V1. In my case, I use real police radar if I need to. I bought my V1 in 2005 and was upgraded to version 3.826. So I'm in it's 2 year period right now. Every 4-5 years to retune it is not bad at all. I Had bought a 3.813 before and it was out of tune. Detection distance was aweful and knew right away it was out of tune. Had to go to VR for retuning.
