Quick I/O Question

I was traveling at night on a back highway doing 60 in a 45 and as I come over this hill my V1 instantly goes to full strength and as soon as I can respond I slammed my breaks because I was the only car on this road at the time. I know he seen my car dip and as I pass him of course he puts on his lights and pulls me over. So while pulling over I take my V1 down and stick it under my seat. He comes to me gets all my information and hands me a warning saying slow down and lets me go. After he gives me this warning, he seemed pretty cool so I asked him how does his radar work ( acting like I was stupid). I was like do you always keep it on or do you toggle it? He said he toggled it so it confirmed that he was using I/O which is really becoming a threat where I live since it seems like most LEO's are starting to use it regularly. 2 Questions for all you fellow V1 users, when they toggle it on can they get an instant read or does it take a second? Another words if I slam my breaks as soon as my V1 alerts me is there any chance I could have got a speed reading lower than 60? Also, how do most of you guys battle the I/O?

1. almost instant, no visible time delay. I would say there is a few micro second delay from when they hit the switch till they get a reading but it's not anywhere near human reaction time.

2. There is no chance of slowing down, maybe 1 mph but that is about it. Sorry

The only way to counteract I/O is to have a few rabbits in front of you and hope that they get hit first so that your RD alerts you. If you are by yourself stick to 5mph over the speed limit.

You must use a rabbit: Someone out in-front of you for the officer to shoot. (Search for this term in the search function).
If your on the interstate (with heavy trucker traffic) a CB is the most effective countermeasure for instant-on.

You cannot out-break correctly used instant-on, the speed-reading is for our purposes instantaneous...

And you have to factor in that most RDs can have up to a 1 second delay before they show the I/O alert. So no matter what you pretty much are toast if a really experienced cop uses I/O against you and waits until you are within his radar gun's range before pulling the trigger.

The only way to beat instant on, is to see the vehicle and be under the limit before he triggers it. Very hard to do if hes' on top of you

If your lucky you'll get a Hit from him further away , striking someone else, that may be your only notice.

I was once nailed with I/O for 106 in a 65. (years ago)


I was doing a little over 130 when my X50, (and my eyes) notified me that I was about to get a ticket, and I used all the braking force my Z could muster.

I don't know if I got rid of the speed before it "locked" or if he was just kind enough to write me for the lowest/last number he saw on the display.

You think you got it hard? Troopers here use I/O in forward-facing config. This means they are shooting in the same direction of travel as you're going. They are very very good hiders, and wait for you to pass, and shoot you in the a$$. Oh yeah, and they can see your brake lights and sudden decrease in speed, and will know you are detecting them too.

So if you are approaching them a 1/2 mile away, and they clock someone infront of you, that radar will not be traveling to you, it will be shooting away from you, well off-axis. Your only shot is catching a good bounce. Though my STi has done a excellent job of picking up these faint off-axis shots, I still wouldn't dare go more than 10MPH over PSL with little to no traffic on the highways.

The NJSP are true hunters...look them up.

There is no competition when it comes to instant-on radar.

Their reading is INSTANT, your detector has a 150ms(whistler, V1) up to 1500ms (slightly older Escort) delay before it accepts a signal through its filter for alerting.... I think it's plainly obvious you cannot outbrake IO.
