    Default V1 and real LIDAR

    I was driving done the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey this past Friday. My V1 was up and detecting when I saw a NJSP Trooper parked in the median. NO radar or Laser alerts!! As I passed him I noticed he was using a Laser gun. Now I know he may not have "shot" me BUT if he did why didn't my V1 alert. It alerts the sun shine reflecting off of other vehicles and to the head and tale lights of other vehicles BUT no alert to a possible real Laser threat!!

    The 2 thing I figure is:
    1. He didn't "shoot" me and
    2. I was too close to him and if he did "shoot" me the Laser "signal" had not spread out enough to be seen by my V1.

    From what I have read here the LEO will target the license plate or do low on a flat surface on the front of the car.

    There are alot of reasons why V1 didn't alert you to laser. Happened to me too. As you mentioned above he probably didn't shoot u or shooting too low on your car. I know it seems frustrating but have to let it go... Even if V1 alerted you.......It would be a ticket notifier.

    Try to invest in laser jammers

    Where is your V1 mounted?

    If your V1 is mounted high, there is a very real possibility that it missed a direct hit on your car. Not a big deal though, as it would have just been a "ticket notification" - basically alerting you that you just got caught (assuming you were over PSL). A higher mounted detector has a better chance of picking up "scatter" when the LEO hits cars ahead of you but this is extremely rare, and should NOT be relayed upon.

    It really sounds to me like you need some laser countermeasures, assuming lidar is common in your area (which it sounds like it is). A detector alone, even the mighty V1, is not adequate protection against lidar threats.

    I'm playing with an Ultralytle LR-B right now and i can tell you its a fact that LEO can shoot lidar at your front and you will not even know it. You can also forget about the rear lidar alert. In all rear shot i tested from 0ft- 1000ft, V1 does not alert until at least 500 feet. from the front, my zr4 picks up and jam the lidar at least 3 seconds before the v1. v1 will only pick up lidar from the front if the leo is far away or does not know how to hold the lidar gun steady. I would never trust an windshield mount detector for laser. Even the zr3-or zr4 will give you some protection like 3 seconds from the front.

    depending on a radar detector for laser protection is not a good plan..

    My last video showing how it can be difficult to get a laser hit..

    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_rB5L1XpoY"]YouTube - Laser trap.[/ame]

    Granted he had a victim once and the other 2 times, there was some cars in the way but when I had the road to myself for the last run, he definitely set off my V1 and LPP.

    Sometimes, they just do not bother to shoot you if they cannot get a clear shot or if you do not look like you are speeding so you will get no alert and other times, the LEO will shoot anything that moves so you never know..

    It sure made me a believer of the V1's ability to pick up scatter though. I never thought I would get one on video like that.

    At the time, I was almost convinced it was a false (rare here) until I spotted the LEO hiding behind the signpost and his partner with the customer across the road
