    Default V1 DIY mute button

I've seen the other threads about this through search but I still don't really know how to make one. Can anyone tell me a step-by-step how to do this? I know there are four wires in the RJ11 cord and I'll need a 10K resistor, and a momentary switch. One of the threads had a diagram but I have no idea how to read that... Sorry I'm a bit of a newb when it comes to electrical stuff. We only had one class of electrical engineering in my aerospace program!

    Any help would be appreciated!

OK...so, you have a phone cord. cut the plug off of one side.

On the other side, look at the plug.

With the tab DOWN, look through the top. There are four colors. From left to right, consider them 1, 2, 3, and 4.

    Remember colors 2 and 4.

On the end that you cut the plug off of, strip the outer shell.

You have four individual wires now. Keep the ones whose colors match 2 and 4 from the other end, but cut the other two (1 and 3) back to the outer shell. You don't need them.

Now, you should have a blunt end with two little wires coming off. Strip them of their insulation. (Carefully!)

Get your Single Pole, Single Throw Momentary switch.

These two wires need to be attached to the switch. Some switches only have two prongs/studs, others have 4. If your switch has 4, don't be fooled...it's actually two pairs of two. (so long as you got the right switch)

If you have a 4 stud switch, use a meter to find out which ones are the same and which ones are opposite on the circuit. (You'll have to press the button with probes on studs to figure it out)

Attach the wires to studs that are OPPOSITE on the circuit. (Change in voltage when you push the button)

Once you've attached the button it's time to try it out.

With the button plugged into the "Accessory" jack, hold it down.

If your V1 changes modes, congratulations! You've done it right!

If your V1 goes dark this means that the wires are flip-flopped in the plug. You'll have to cut the plug off and attach another one with the colors REVERSED in the housing (4, 3, 2, 1 instead of the other way).

First step: Go to ebay.com and type in valentine one mute in the search engine.

Second step: Find auction with $5.79 price with free shipping.

Third step: Sit back and drink beer and wait for mute button with free shipping.

    I appreciate the help rob.

Jazzy, I did look at the buttons on ebay but I don't really like their style very much.
