I was serious, man. You have two choices: you can tame the V1 with a Cheetah, giving you the perfect balance of performance and discrimination, or you can go back to the toy chest for a lesser detector. I fail to see what was not helpful about that.

Like Trailtow said, it's just a little suspect that you seem so shocked about this after supposedly doing the research. Anyone who has spent five minutes here knows how chatty the V1 is.

Thats the same problem i had when i first got the V1. I would suggest switching it to the Logic mode and reducing the auto mute volume to minimum. this should help you a little bit. It would audio alert you on the X mode if it crosses a certain mark say 4-5 bands on the strength meter. or else it would be quiet. I would also get the Conceled display and have it installed closer to the steering wheel.

I would buy the cheetah C100. it would help reduce the falses and help you around speed and photo cameras.

The V1 may be noisy at time but there has been cases where the the ix has blocked important signals. I was thinking about trading my V1 when i got it. But after 3 weeks and 3 major saves. I just love it.

Without programing, the logic modes do nothing to filter K-band, and many door openers are K=band now days.

I have been test driving the V1 for almost a month.Once I figured out how to program for my needs its alot better.Unfortunately for you NJ still uses X band.So turning it off may not do you any good.

I have tried the 95001x,9500i,V1 and the STI.So far other than Escort's spec mode the V1 is the better detector for my needs. If you think you made a bad choice than try the 9500 ix.If you can be for sure about locking out the store and door alarms the 9500ix is probably a better choice.

    Hope this helps some.Good luck.

Somebody had to do the dirty work.

Anyways to the OP, If you can't stand false alerts or determine between falses and the fuzz, you should try(and take your chances with ) the escort with truelock.

I got a simple solution. Keep your V1 and use it on the highway. I swear to you that the arrows freaking owns the highway and the arrows are priceless. In the city, unplug it. You will never have to hear the V1 at all.

Sorry your V1 isn't working out for ya. Honestly, if you start a thread stating your thoughts about the V1 and call it too chatty, you're gonna piss off the zombies. They have a high tolerance for falses and get arguably the best RD detection available in return for it. It works for them. This clearly isn't working for you however. I'd attempt to tweak with some settings on the V1 first (which I can't help you with since I've never programmed one).

If you are interested in the 9500ix but don't want to use Truelock you will still have considerably less falses than the Valentine. Auto mode tones the X and K sensitivity down when you are driving a slower speeds to cut down on falses and still have plenty of alert to police radar. Even if you leave the ix in highway mode and go through the city, the falses are completely bearable. Auto mute will give one brief alert to radar if you are traveling under 25 mph so if you are sitting in traffic or at a red light you will know the threat is there but won't have to reach for the mute button constantly. The red light camera database is nice for city driving as well. As you can see the 9500ix is really a city detector which performs very well on the highway as well. It's a love or hate detector in my opinion and you just have to try it out to see if it fits you.

do what I do, keep the V1 for the highway and enjoy it for what it is. Use a lesser detector for the city, the beltronics 955 is cheap and still does great at detecting real police cars while not being so sensitive that it goes off all of the time.

    OP:

Did you read the manual for your V1? If not, I highly suggest doing that.

Moving on, what state are you located in? You need to find out what radar bands are used where you travel. If X-band is not used, you can turn it off completely. That should cut down on the false alerts.

Then you need to find out if K-band is used. Some local departments still use it, especially if their budget is tight and they aren't going to upgrade their radar units. In my town, they use K-band and laser.

After you drive around with your V1, you'll learn where the false alerts re-occur. This is when things get pretty important and you'll go from a rookie to an intermmidate V1 user. You'll learn to watch the boogy counter in known false alert areas and know if there's a trap or not.

    * Turn off the POP radar.

    * Turn on the Junk filter.

    * Run in big L mode.

Ka-band alerts should be taken seriously all the time and you should take immidate action. That's almost always police radar, and has a unique sound on the V1 that you'll learn to recognize.

As far as setup, I recommand getting the concealed display and hardwiring your unit and ofcourse having the carry case for it.

To sum it up, the V1 can be intimidating to some when they first start using it, but once you learn how to master it, you can really take advantage of it.
