Buying a V1

I'm looking into a Valentine and found a 3.813. I can get it for $175 plus the tune up price. I wouldn't pay more than 250 for a 1.7.

Okay, so, I got 2 tickets in 2 months, first one I did driving school.

second one, I am fighting right now - nasty one. to sum up - 91mph in a 65mph, on the 5 north cali. I had to pay a nasty fine of 415 dollars. I paid, if by chance I win, i will take that money to buy a V1 (or a 9500. . .)

I saw a V1 for 350 used on craplist, and I was seriously giving it some thoughts...

"V1 Description: Radar circuitry known in-house as V1.7 gives high performance on all radar bands. Also, it remembers your “mode” setting when shut off. Has stack of four LEDs on front panel for band identification. Front and rear laser.

So, I know its not the most updated one, how do I check for manufacturing dates? and sorry for my novice knowledge, but do V1's have any common issues? I had a x50 about 2 years ago, it froze ... I guess part of the contributing factor was the heat (120-130 degrees easy) since I live in phx, az. and I plan on hardwiring the V1 if I get it..

Two things, the price is high and you need to get the serial number and call VR and check to see if its stolen.

I think you can buy refurbished units with all the lastest programming from VR for the near the same price as the one your looking at.

The new V1's sell for 399 dollars but if you ask for a reburb unit they usually sell for around 359 i think. I would suggest purchasing the newer revision. Its easier with the warranty and will last a lot longer.

With what version did they start drilling out the magnesium case? Weren't some early versions actually leak free, before they aerated the case for heat dissipation?

Well, they leaked LESS, but they did leak.

They started drilling it at the electronic temperature compensation version (3.851), but they stopped drilling it for the latest (3.872) version
