Default How does Valentine update firmware?

When you guys are upgrading your units, do they need to be sent in to the manufacurer?

Are they swapping out the internals, or just reflashing the existing ones?

    What does this cost?

Yes they have to be sent in. Most of the time its a software flash depending on how old your unit is. The older units depending on their hardware may need a hardware upgrade also.

I believe its $45 bucks from what I have seen.

Is this shown to improve the range? If not, what would be the point.

Is the potential on these things limited by the receiver technology being used-High-efficiency double-ridged horn versus the Dual Microwave on 9500ci and STI

V1's drift out of tune over time and sending it in for the tune up is kinda lika a tune up for your car. While it is in if you request they will update your software. New software does not mean better performance in most cases, better performance comes from being tuned up.

Some of the members here report the older 3.813 V1's perform better than the current version.

Are they physically adjusting the optics when they do this?

How does a driver know when it's time to update?

If by this statement you mean "tune up", many people here send their V1 in for a tune up annually. Remember, we're hardcore enthusiasts. If this seems too often for you, then just take note of your V1's false alerts. If you start picking up your falses later or are receiving weaker signals than normal on a consistent basis, then you should probably send it in for a tune up.

As for upgrading, I'd say if you have a 3.812, 3.813, or 3.826 V1, do not upgrade. If you have anything else, I'd say send it in for the upgrade to 3.872.

Remember, tune up and upgrade are NOT the same thing.

You can do either one without the other.

Can you upgrade the units too? What kind of upgrades have been offered over the years?
