Default What would you like to see logging V1 with time/GPS?

I'm working on a program that logs many things including GPS position and V1 data (also the J1850 datastream from my harley, or the OBD2 stuff from my car).

I'll post some examples in a following message (I don't have enough posts yet).

My remote display is currently my Nokia N810 internet tablet with a program that shows the display (unblanking the screen and coming to the front when it detects something).

The whole datastream is saved off in a KML file (but only for post processing).

Note the data is available live, or with a replay program (I can watch where I was through google earth while my instrument cluster and V1 virtual display on my laptop run).

Right now it is opensource so runs under Linux, but can run on Mac or Windows with the right software.

It would be nice to do something like uploading the contacts, but what would people here find useful.

    Default Examples

In the image in a lower post, you will notice one of the arrows is yellow. It also is flashing, so I detect that and also change the color. I'm not doing anything involved - the datastream just lights certain LEDs, so I just change the color of groups of pixels (like the old colormap animations).

There are several circuits to get the V1 stream, but the easiest is to use a TTL serial bluetooth module with a pullup to tell the V1 to transmit. I already posted something elsewhere using an aircable, but am getting a smaller one working.

At 19200 baud, the long and short data bits will return two different 8 bit characters (0xfc and 0xe0) so it is easy just to read the bytes.

The current module I'm working with is a Parani ESD 200 series (using the chip antenna).

It needs a 3.3v (12v to 3.3v), the pullup and series resistor. And it needs to be setup which might require an adapter to use a serial port. I use a 3.3v FTDI "breakout" from SparkFun.

This is an example of the V1 strength on Google Earth. The height of the fence is my speed. (the GPS is 10Hz). The colors are of the resistor code, 0-9 are Black, brown, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, gray, and white. White is not used.

Hmmm, Interesting. You're a lot smarter than me. Do you have a pc in your car are or do you load it at home?

Neat, but I don't know about recording my speed on public roads with date, time and location stamps to boot. I do obey all posted traffic laws, however things do happen.

I don't understand how you did this (my technical knowledge is very limited) but this looks like a great idea and an awesome follow-through. To what purpose did you do this? Kind of like a trapster-ish program?

I did something similar last year:

It was fun to do, but I don't really see much practical use for it.

Pretty impressive stuff! I guess you were traveling right to left in the google pic?
