V1+Kband+Almost Unfair

K band detection on the V1 just continues to amaze me. Thought I would share what happened yesterday as an example. I was traveling south on I-65 from Huntsville back to Birmingham, AL and got a one led K blip as I was passing through the town of Hartselle. Very odd since all state troopers use Ka and I knew that I never encounter K in that area. Something was different.

The K alert got to two dots, then went away as I was going up a slight incline. As I crested it came back stronger, 4 then 5 led's. I backed off and started looking around. Median was clear, shoulder was clear, no on-ramps or overpasses ahead. WTF?? About 1.25 miles from the initial alert I see the culprit: A Hartselle LEO sitting in a parking lot on a road running parallel to the interstate. Now, the 1.25 isn't the impressive part (I have gotten K detection from upwards of 3 miles). What was impressive about it was that the LEO sitting in the parking lot was off axis to the interstate. He was facing with the nose of his vehicle about 45 degrees off the axis of the interstate.

Great encounter. If I wasn't looking off the interstate, there is no way I would have known where that was coming from.

Was the COPcar occupied ? Is it possible that it moved or re-oreinted between alerts ?

Yes it was occupied. The LEO was sitting in the lot with front facing K, constant on. Not sure if he moved or not. Don't think so, unless he was just pulling up when I first got him and the beam of K swung across the interstate. I think that had been sitting there for a while though, his windows were down and he was catching the breeze.

I was just on the way home from work, the usual K-band trap was present.......almost a mile and around the turn the V1 sniffs him out.

The SUV behind me didn't quite get why I slowed down, although I'm sure he finally figured it out once he saw the LEO.
