You must have taken a $75.00 hit.

If quiet means a lot to you and you were thinking about turning K band off I can give you an even better option of keeping it quiet.

By adding option (F) all eight LED's of strength are automuted giving you the ability of truly having one volume for K band (muted lever) and another volume for Ka and laser (regular knob)
I use this instead of turning K band off.
I do the same. I've never come across a K band touting LEO but reportedly it's still used around me so I use these K band Automute settings and keep it in Little L mode. It works great.

So true, I bought my first V1 in 93 kept it for 30 days running out of time on a vacation was tough.

Reason I sent it back was high cost, much bigger unit with lots of things going on than my original Passport seemed overkill, Ka was not used yet and laser was very experimental.

My first laser hit ever did not come until 2002 in Oregon.
Got a new V1 in '95 and never looked back.

I hear ya Buz, unlimited mute time is so needed but you can premute the alert before it happens if you know it is coming.
VR needs to automute X band as well for those that are stuck in X band places.
Email them with these suggestions. I have, and maybe if more people speak up and ask for these options we'll get them.

I have a little different situation. I run 20k - 30k across the US every year (not a trucker). i have a bel GX65 and love it, speed cameras etc are proliferating like rabbits everywhere, especially in phoenix. I would not trade the GPS locations for anything. I am thinking about the V1 for the long open highways all across the US. The redline is interesting (but not tested yet), I think the V1 would be great with the arrows etc and would only be used in wide open country. If you don't have cameras in your area the ix or g65 is not worth the $$ but in my case is invaluable even if you love the V1. I can afford both so. I have read a lot and get a little confused about these units interfering with each other if you try to run both, I would only do that out in the wide open spaces but is it really a BIG problem?? It would definietly be nice to know if the threat is in front or behind, would townig a trailer greatly affect the rear arrows

The other day I was getting a full Ka alert but had no idea where it was coming from. I'm thinking about getting a Cheetah GPS mirror to keep the chatter down.
You will not be sorry if you do.

What's more, you don't have to enter the difficult programming mode on the V1 when turning bands on and off. Just leave them all on, and use the Cheetah mirror to activate/deactivate bands.

We only see real K band radar on the highway, so I have K muted until 60 mph (one of Cheetahs nifty programmable features. )

Pre-muting the alert is ok, but that's the whole point; I don't want to reach up to mute a false. For me, reaching up to turn up the muted volume lever(in the case of a possible LEO) is far less frequent than reaching up to mute a pharmacys automatic doors, etc. So why not have a 'no time-limit' option so you're reaching up less often?(like only when you suspect a real threat, then you turn up the muted volume lever) A VERY USER-FRIENDLY OPTION VR.

The rf leakage from the GX65 and V1 will cause false alarms in the other. Since there isn't speed cameras out in the open, use the V1 for that and the GX65 for the city.

Got my (girfreinds) 9500ix from Best Buy. No issues with quality or performance so far. I bet alot of the returns are cause the rookie users thinking its a cop detector, and return it after passing a few cops and it remaining silent.

    Sad but probably true.

A couple of weeks ago, I had "sold" my V1 on eBay and decided to purchase a 9500ix (from Best Buy) because the V1 city 'chatter' was driving me nuts in Los Angeles/Orange Counry.

This should have been my 1st hint, but I went to 3 different Best Buy stores....and all of them had multiple returned/open item 9500ix units. I asked the sales rep(s) why so many of these units were being returned and I got the expected BS answers.

I wanted to test the unit out personally and see how it compares with the V1. could always return it before the 30 day refund period at no cost to me.

My initial impression was that the 9500ix was much larger than the V1 and felt "cheaper" as well. I hated the button layout but I kept an open mind and used my V1 hardwire that I had in my vehicle.

To make a long story short....I returned it to Best Buy after 2 days (adding to their already abundant stock of returned 9500ix).

I hated the GPS feature and didn't care for the plastic casing either. Also I couldn't live w/o the ARROWS. I thought I could, but I was wrong.

I didn't fully appreciate the V1 until I no longer had it. It truly is the "king" of ALL radar detectors....err LOCATORS.

Here's the cool part. The person who won my auction failed to make payment. It was a blessing as I was able to keep my V1.

But there was still an issue with city "chatter" (especially in LA). I had my V1 programmed with X-band OFF, POP mode OFF and K-band auto-mute set to 30 seconds. I also had a custom MUTE button installed. Even with those modifications....it was still a noisey little bugger around town.

I was on the verge of disabling K-band, but was adviced not to in So Cal.

I have finally found the answer to my problem. I set option "E" to DOWN (K-band mute at level 4) and it does wonders in little L mode.

I am still able to see K-band detection, but the volume is muted until it hits level 6.

This option has been a God send for me driving in Los Angeles and I love my V1 more than ever.

I admit that it was a stupid move on my part initially selling my V1 but I had to learn the hard way and in the end, I appreciate this device even more now.

    Long live the V1.
pnce u have the arrows, you aint going back....
