Opened the box, again, damn.... No annoying bullet proof case like my escort detectors. Pretty excited. The cool thing I found is that it runs fine off the power supply my Zr4 puts out for my 9500ix, so I have no need to run additional wires.
The problem with using the Escort wire is than the mute button will not work on the V1 which also controls what modes you are in.
Used it, and after a few hours of using it, I'm ready to ditch my ix. I love that the ramp up doesn't suck. Haven't see too much of a range difference with it yet, but having QT detection is a dealbreaker in itself. Ill actually be selling my 9500ix soon, so keep heads up. Anyways...
Questions are:
1. Can someone explain the "l" (small l) and "L" modes to me? I've read online about them, but i seem to get people comparing them to highway and city. Which should I be keeping on? I live in a subburb or chicaho, but never really travel to the chi.
Little L lets you SEE all alerts, not necessarily HEAR them depending on where you put the muted control lever and depending on your K band automute settings; it lets you HEAR them as they meet/exceed your settings or the detector deems it's necessary to tell you what's going on.
Big L doesn't SHOW you anything until the settings are met or again the detector deems necessary to let you know what's going on.
2. When going thru the tolls, I get a laser alert. I know this is suppose to happen. Question is, my ix and Zr4 never pick up a toll way laser, but my v1 does.... What gvies.
V1 kicks ass on detecting laser. Period.
3. What is the proper place to mount the v1? I had my ix in the center of the windshield right above the RVM. Should I keep my v1 there, or put it in the dead center of the windshield so it gets better use of the rear antenna?
Up high as center as you can get. Just make sure the rear antenna can see out the back.
Thanks for all your help. And thanks for pulling me away from my escort. I like the v1 more and more every day!
