    Default Total newbie here...

Purchased a Val1 new in '01 and it has served me well ever since. I have the 1.7 version without POP2. I happened upon this forum and read about tuning, etc, but I have no idea where to start! I'm not sure which software revision I have...how do I find out? And what would all you experienced tuners out there recommend for me?

    To find your firmware version:
    1. Turn the unit off.
    2. Push and hold the nob in.
    3. Turn the unit on. Once everything stops flashing, release the nob.
    4. Read the numbers shown. Should be: X.XXX where X is an integer value.

Tune-Ups are $45 plus shipping (one-way). Valentine Research will review the unit, check for failed components, replace any failed components, "tune" the detector back to the factory standards for receiving and alerting to radar, and ship the unit back to you with MATCHING shipping service.

If you go to Valentine One radar and laser detectors and click on the "Upgrades" page, you can enter your serial number for the cost to upgrade. Again you pay one-way shipping and with the upgrade you will receive a unit in return that is V1.8 Firmware 3.872. This platform and firmware has received positive reviews from this community.

If it's working fine then no need for a tune.

Thanks for your response! How do I know if it's working fine? Simply by the power-on self-test? I see FAR fewer signals than when I first got it, but don't seem to miss any obvious radar traps...

    My software revision is 3.769

Do you know of any false sources that you have always alerted to? Door openers, etc. See if it still alerts to those as it always has. If you suspect it's not working as well as it has send it back to VR and have them check it out. If it needs to be tuned up they will tell you and i think it's about $45.

No false sources, really. Sometimes it will go off on X mode with a signal level of 1, but I'm not too worried about that. It never goes off strongly without a radar trap present.

Go to Valentineone.com and enter your serial number in that is on the back of your V1.
