I bet mine wouldent of alerted to the PL3 ether, luckley for me the LEO's seem to be slopy with the truespeeds around here.

The above alert was probubley at over 2000+ feet.
That's pretty good i didn't think that RD would pick up laser over 2000 ft.

Yea actually the farther away you are from laser the better chance you have of detecting it. The beam on most guns is only about 3 ft wide at 1000ft.

Thanks for the input Sampson. I'm in the same boat you are in and I can really relate to your "newbie" point of view. This really helps since I'm considering the same two RD.

I thought the 9500 series did well against laser mine alerts every time I get hit by a ultralyte. My 9500 is mounted in the center of the windshield, the funny thing is the only time I ever failed to get a alert from laser was with a V1 mounted high and the guy shot me pretty close like 500ft, the M-20's went off but no alert from the V1.

Doesn't matter anyway with or without a alert you are still getting a ticket, if laser is a concern a good jammer is your only hope.
I can actually make my v1 not alert by using a PL2 (very good optics) but can make the blinders alert. pretty funny actually and this is the only gun it will do that too showing you how good the PL2 is.

x2. I prefer high mount too and i get plenty of debatable laser saves.

Sampson, both those units are probably the best in the industry and they each have there strengths and weaknesses. As you have them for a while one will seem to fit your needs more and more. Ether one is a great choice and serve 2 different needs.
I have had my 9500ix for a while now and wouldn't trade it for anything. It has saved me way to many times in ways other RD's cant.
I like my 9500ix a lot, the GPS is really nifty and the way the alerts are not continuous if your driving slow. The only concern I have is QT and I'm trying to decide if the V1 would be a better detector for me. V1 needs some of the GPS low speed mute features of the 9500ix and their would be no contest. Its really nice to drive to the store and not get blasted by a K alerts when your close to the automatic doors.
Both the V1 and the 9500ix employ some sort of special features to keep you aware of what's going on.

V1 - Arrows. Bogey Counter. Two different 'filtering' (although it's really alert suppression) modes. K band Automuting (Time and/or signal strength muting).

9500ix - (I'm no expert but it may include: ) Three different filtering modes. TrueLock (GPS lockouts). AutoLearn (Automated GPS lockouts). Spec Display. Expert Meter. And Variable Speed Radar Performance (I think this is the double beep under 20 MPH feature).

It all comes down to a few different factors: Where you drive, how you drive, and what suits your needs best.

I agree with u. Both the v-1 and 9500 ix are both good detectors and it depends on what suit you best.

Good thread. I'm a newbie too and just recently bought a 9500ix. So far I've really enjoyed it and I think it suits my needs/driving style just fine.

Having said that, I AM considering also buying a V1 and using it for highway driving only. But to be honest, I'm a gadget guy and the hobby side of this s driving more than anything else. The V1 intrigues me but I fear that I couldn't live with all the false but I can't really say this for sure until I try it... And I plan to do just that. Maybe the other features/benefits will outweigh the false for me.

Programming makes the V1 much more tolerant to those who are sensitive to false alerts.

X2, the only problem with the V1 is you have to manually get it out of its high filtering mode when you don’t need it. Horrible scenario if you forget whereas the 9500ix does it for you.

I still strongly thingk VR should partner up with the GPS mirror company and simply have a way of automatically turning on/off its filtering mode you choose according to area.
