Default 9500ix vs V1 general impressions from Newbie

    Hello.
Last week I purchased both a 9500ix and V1 for comparison purposes because I was unable to decide between the two based on what I had read. I am completely new to the world of RDs. I still have not decided which to keep but I have developed some "seat-of-the-pants" impressions that seem consistent with reports I've read on this forum.

    1) Around town both units seem to respond similarly to strong signals; however, the V1 is definitely more chatty.

    2) I like the gps feature on the 9500ix and the ability to lockout known false signals. Interestingly, though, I've already conditioned myself to anticipate the V1 false report at known false signal locations.

    3) I like the audible warning on the 9500ix, although I am quickly getting used to the different radar band tones on the V1.

    4) At first I didn't think that the V1 arrow feature would be significant for me. However, I find that I like it a lot given that I can screen out fixed false sources based on the arrow locations changing as I drive past the source. It is also just plain nice to know from where the signal is coming.

    5) I find it interesting that the 9500ix manual recommends mounting low on the windshield. The rationale is that lower provides better sensitivity to laser and, therefore, is what I interpreted to be the compromise position for detecting both radar and laser. The V1 manual, on the other hand, recommends positioning the detector high on the windshield.

My driving style generally keeps me within the speed limit around town. However, on the highway I like to push the speed by 15 mph or so - nothing crazy here. Based on this driving style, I am leaning towards the V1. I also have some concerns with the apparent lack of the 9500ix's sensitivity to Q/T that I've read about on this forum, although I confess that I am not entirely clear about the differences between I/O, Q/T, and POP - seems that the terms are interchanged sometimes.

In any case, I've got a couple more weeks to decide.

Mounting high on the windshield is better for radar. Mounting low is better for laser. But either way if your detector alerts you to laser 95% of the time it's too late to slow down. He's got you.

x2. I prefer high mount too and i get plenty of debatable laser saves.

Sampson, both those units are probably the best in the industry and they each have there strengths and weaknesses. As you have them for a while one will seem to fit your needs more and more. Ether one is a great choice and serve 2 different needs.
I have had my 9500ix for a while now and wouldn't trade it for anything. It has saved me way to many times in ways other RD's cant.

I like my 9500ix a lot, the GPS is really nifty and the way the alerts are not continuous if your driving slow. The only concern I have is QT and I'm trying to decide if the V1 would be a better detector for me. V1 needs some of the GPS low speed mute features of the 9500ix and their would be no contest. Its really nice to drive to the store and not get blasted by a K alerts when your close to the automatic doors.

Just be careful with the conditioning ... I had a K band ticket with my prior V1 where a LEO's K was mixed in with a number of "regular" K falses ... didn't notice until it was too late. My fault for sure, but I had conditioned myself to ignore that spot and paid for it with a ticket.

With the ix? Really. That's hard to believe considering Escort's subpar laser sensitivity. Most V1 users can't say they have had "plenty" of laser saves let alone an Escort user.

I would find it hard to believe too if i didn't experience them my self, its been extremely impressive. And literally every time i see one my 9500 has already gone off.
However TrueSpeed tends to be exclusively used everywhere i drive for some reason, im just luckily i guess.

I just had one the outher day: Was driving late at night doing about 20 over as always and i see an Audi TT pass by so i quickly make him my rabbet.
I let him get about a mile ahead and within 10 minuets BAM LASER ALERT! I thought sh** im screwed, slam on the breaks and get to 63mph.
I’m looking everywhere and I see the Audi pull quickly over to the right lane in front of a few cars just under an over pass. Just then a LEO flicks on his light and pulls him over…
After my GF and I get over the initial elation I relies I just got a laser scatter save because of the dumb Audi guy.

I got a laser ticket with a PL3. Shot at almost 1000 feet and no alert from the 9500ix.

I bet mine wouldent of alerted to the PL3 ether, luckley for me the LEO's seem to be slopy with the truespeeds around here.

The above alert was probubley at over 2000+ feet.

I thought the 9500 series did well against laser mine alerts every time I get hit by a ultralyte. My 9500 is mounted in the center of the windshield, the funny thing is the only time I ever failed to get a alert from laser was with a V1 mounted high and the guy shot me pretty close like 500ft, the M-20's went off but no alert from the V1.

Doesn't matter anyway with or without a alert you are still getting a ticket, if laser is a concern a good jammer is your only hope.
