moved this from my original thread in new member introductions - hoping you guys can help me out:
Sounds good - it'll definitely be a few months before I even think about purchasing the LI. However xmas season is coming up and I've hinted about the V1 to my girlfriend, lol.
A couple questions... I definitely want to hardwire the V1 and run a CD. I was also thinking about installing a HID upgrade kit for my headlights - I don't want anything fancy or colored, but I do want better nighttime visibility - possibly running 4000k bulbs. Which may help if I ever choose to veil my lights.
Currently have a Garmin GPS. Was thinking down the line, after the LI is installed, I may want to buy a Cheetah mirror to take advantage of the speed-based muting, just in case I become forgetful in manually unmuting/muting the V1.
Also, somewhere down the line, I'd like to run a single front-facing vid cam. Like I said, the drivers in my hometown are terrible. In Jan of 2009 I really had to pull teeth with the insurance company to get them to reverse a 100% my fault verdict to 100% in my favour. Seemed like a common sense situation to me, but they were really pushing the no-witness factor, probably because I'm young and inherently stupid, and the other party was a taxi cab company, meaning flat rates with no increases.
So here's the question. I'm no electrician or car mechanic - will running V1 w/ CD, LI, GPS, vidcam and Cheetah mirror have any significant drawbacks to the alternator charging the battery? Do these devices pull a lot of power? Obviously they'd only be powered with the engine running.
Also, if I do indeed decide to buy a Cheetah mirror, I remember reading a thread regarding the need for a special type of wiring harness/adapter in order to use the mirror/V1/CD/mutebutton in synchrony. Would I be able to hardwire in this 'adapter' and have it unused just in case I ever wanted to add the mirror to my setup?
Thanks for your time guys
