Default my new setup in a 1992 Miata

hey guys. been a while since i posted. since i got a new car though, i figured i'd post up how i have my V1 set up now. lemme know what you guys think. i'm mostly happy with it, although it bugs me that the main unit is a little bit slanted towards the left.. i'll live with it haha.. wiring could be better, but it's hard to do in a vert. without using glue, i don't know how i'll get the wiring to sit more flush.

something i've been considering since the Miata is so low (mine's lowered also). mounting high generally means that the V1 line of sight is still obstructed by other cars. i know that's fine for radar. do you guys think there would be any advantage to mounting the main unit in my front grille area? i'd have the unit enclosed in a thick plastic shell of some sort, with a lot of insulation inside to protect from bumps. the only advantage i see with this setup is that the V1 might be able to peek under cars for better radar reception. how much would radar signals from the rear be affected? i doubt radar will travel all the way through the chassis of the car, and through the engine to the V1 unit (if i'm shot from behind).

edit: i hate photobucket... if i use image tags, it displays the max resolution picture, which screws up the thread.. sorry guys, you'll have to click!

Mounting looks great to me. I don't like the CD so low, rather have it more in line of sight. Main is that YOU like it, you have to live with it.

i actually prefer the CD more in my line of sight as well.. the reason why i mounted it so low was because i can hit the mute button this way (for driving around town). i was thinking about mounting the CD near my gauge cluster, however that'd make pushing the mute button harder. i'm iffy about pushing the mute button on the actual unit because i'm not sure how sturdy it's mounted. it seems really secure, but that's what i thought about my previous location as well... then it fell down on a nice warm day (not even summer yet!!). i may move the CD though.. we'll see.. still testing it out and seeing how much i like the location

Why does the RD not look level to me? Also, the CD could be mounted right above your fans.

How about putting the CD by the gauges and using a remote mute button?

it's not level... it's bugging me a bit, but it's cramped between the roof and the rear view mirror.. think it'll affect performance? lol.

i thought about mounting CD above fans as well, however i wonder how visible it will be to other cars. don't want people following me for radar..

It will affect performance some. How much? Well, that is something that will have to be tested. I know Guys of LIDAR have done some off axis, but I'm too lazy to go link it right now.

i was hoping if it's not that much off axis, it won't affect performance.. looks like a project for me this weekend will be for me to mount it level, and keep it up high..

I have my V1 mounted in the tint area, slightly pointed up (as I have no room to level it out) and I notice a good .2-.3 mile difference in detection from level. I really do need to bring it under the rear view mirror or move it back to the left of the mirror, just above eye level.
