Best Setting for Chicagoland?

Okay thank you. Here is the setting i have been thinking when i get my V1

X band: Off
K, Ka, L bands: On
All Euro features: Off
Ka Guard: ??? (help me out)
Normal Responsive or More Responsive for Ka?
POP: On

You're new to the V1. You want to love it, not hate it. Unfortunately, Valentine Research takes the position of shipping with factory settings on full throttle, which shields them from criticism of missing anything. In the real world, you want real alerts and not fake ones that drive you crazy. So ...

Big L instead of x off. Works pretty well, and will still alert for a true x band bogey.

Laser off, because without a jammer it will give you a false sense of security and you'll end up with a ticket. Also, these alerts from the V1 will rock you to your bones. Very nerve wracking.

K band ... set to mute for 30 seconds unless the signal strength is great enough.

POP off, unless you can come up with a good reason to have it on.
Ka Guard ... factory setting is ok.

There is a natural inclination to be more inclusive of alerts as opposed to less inclusive. With the V1 fight that inclincation, or you'll go crazy. All you have to do to prove this is look at the rants of the Escort Entourage. Also, if you can afford it, add the Cheetah C100 or mirror.

I have encountered a cop running hand-held X band radar on Golf rd. between Skokie and Schuamburg. The V1 is good RD you will have to use the K band automute and run it in Big L mode, as long as you have some tolerance for false alerts you will be OK. Enjoy the new V1.

Check the regional section and see what bands they use, etc. During my jammer testing, a forum member shot POP at my car and the V1 didn't alert at all (because it doesn't have POP). If LEO's use that there then you're done if you turn it off.

Ka Guard: OFF

I don't think it's a good idea to suggest Ka guard off to a newbie that lives in the Chicago suburbs. He's going to have a tough enough time deciphering the alerts of his new V1 as it is. Ka band falses will just prolong the learning curve.

I think it's illegal in Illinois and was wondering if anybody has used them in Illinois without any major problems. If I live in Indiana and have a jammer installed on my vehicle then travel to Illinois what problems could I face? Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes it is illegal in illinois. I think you can do that in illinois if you know what to do like when it alert you then slow down to PSL then turn off the jammer quick so police can read you

I run laser jammers in Cali, where they are illegal. It's no problem at all. I get the alert, quickly slow to close enough to the PSL to avoid a ticket, then shut the jammers off and allow the LEO to attain my new and improved speed. Easy as pie and almost impossible to get caught with them if operated correctly. This is normal SOP for laser jammers.

If you do get caught they take your jammer and give you a $50 fine. So it's defiantly worth having a IL, just get down to PSL and kill the jammer let them get a speed and you are fine.

Most members here run either a Blinder laser jammer or a Laser Interceptor laser jammer. The L.I. is more expensive but is a little better jammer and has some cool features.

IL Laser Jammer Law

Sec. 12-613. Possession and use of radar or laser jamming devices prohibited.

(a) Except as provided in subsection (b), a person may not operate or be in actual physical control of a motor vehicle while the motor vehicle is equipped with any instrument designed to interfere with microwaves or lasers at frequencies used by police radar for the purpose of monitoring vehicular speed.

(b) A person operating a motor vehicle who possesses within the vehicle a radar or laser jamming device that is contained in a locked opaque box or similar container, or that is not in the passenger compartment of the vehicle, and that is not in operation, is not in violation of this Section. (c) Any person found guilty of violating this Section is guilty of a petty offense. A minimum fine of $50 shall be imposed for a first offense and a minimum fine of $100 for a second or subsequent offense.

(d) The radar or laser jamming device or mechanism shall be seized by the law enforcement officer at the time of the violation. This Section does not authorize the permanent forfeiture to the State of any radar or laser jamming device or mechanism. The device or mechanism shall be taken and held for the period when needed as evidence. When no longer needed for evidence, the defendant may petition the court for the return of the device or mechanism. The defendant, however, must prove to the court by a preponderance of the evidence that the device or mechanism will be used only for a legitimate and lawful purpose.

(d) A law enforcement officer may not stop or search any motor vehicle or the driver of any motor vehicle solely on the basis of a violation or suspected violation of this Section.
