3.826 --> 3.872 Worth the $100 upgrade fee?

Just got off the phone with V1 and have prices for the upgrade path. I have had my unit for the last 3 years adn it seems to be working just fine. I was debating a simple retune vs a complete upgrade. I have heard nothing but good things about the new 3.872 software. I was just wondering if anyone in here would shed some light on weather or not the upgrade to 872 was worth $100. the nice people at Valentine 1 seem to think it is not. Thanks for the input.

I love my .826 the thing has been nothing but solid for me and never had to get sent back to V1 for a check up

Personally I would rather you just sent it in for a check up rather than upgrade. I think the .826 is one of the best revisions

I would rather upgrade, the 3.872 is great, very little ghosting and solid performance.

Plus you get a new unit with all the latest electronics inside.

Buy another unit, try it for 30 days, don't like it? Send it back.

If you see that it's working fine, etc I would use the money towards laser jammers. NJ is active with them everywhere.

The 3.826 is one of the "greats"

It is viewed by many as up there with 3.812 and 3.813.

Send the unit in for a TUNE ONLY. Decline the upgrade!

Your newly tuned v1 will (should) be better than a a new 3.872.


what would be really awesome would be if you got the 3.826 tuned, and bought a 3.872 and tested it against the 826 for 30 days. Actual testing, not drive-arounds.

If you ordered the 3.826 at your current address, you will need to get it shipped somewhere else though, as the "30 day test drive" only applies to "new customers"

It looks like Valentine finally got the post POP, post digital temperature control, firmware right in the 3.872 . I have not seen any negative comparison of the 3.872 vs any other V1 of any revision level.

The only hard choice is switching from something that you KNOW works. I would be compelled to go for it based on the digital temp thing. It should make the V1 perform a little better..........especially in the heat.

Keep the 3.826 and send it in for a tune up, it is a highly regarded revision and I couldn't be happier with mine.

I'm strongly considering sending in my 3.812 to be upgraded just for that reason. It is annoying, and a bit risky, to have the detector drift out of tune because it got a little too warm. Right now it is almost totally dead on K band and I figure if I'm going to end up shelling out the money to have it tuned up I may as well pay to have it upgraded to the latest and greatest that solves some of the "problems" of the older models.

The problem with the 826 is that it suppresses a true radar source. Just look up the "J" alert problem with the earlier versions and it is true with the 826 because I personally experienced it twice. The 872 does not have this problem. Money wise, you'll save that $100 in the long run. I'd say go for it.
