Yeah my V1 does this as well. The first time it happened, I was a few cars behind a Q5. I didn't think much of it until the Q5 turned off and my V1 stopped bursting K band. Then a week later I encountered an S5. Same freaking thing, but I couldn't see it at first, so I thought it was a cop.
A couple days after that, a Q7 did the same thing. It was enough to drive me crazy, even worse than the construction signs that set of K band or Inifinities/Lexus's with laser.
This issue is completely aggravating, and I too have been driven nuts by phantom LEO's occupying audis with lane-assist features!
There would seem to be many many options for car makers to use different technologies. Hopefully they will eventually figure out how to use passive technologies like video or IR Just like the old metallicized windshields that eventually grew an uncovered spot for detector placement, for automakers with sporting intentions, I'd think they wouldn't want to irritate their customers. Basically makes the detector unusable.
I saw this again yesterday driving through Chicago. I was moving fast through there then I saw CO K band, but it stuck at 3 on my V1. I originally thought it was a LEO but thought it odd to be stuck at 3 for a good 5 miles, so I sped up to see where this source was. I saw the Audi and needless to say, I wasn't very pleased.
Is the lane assist optional on the S5? If not, can it be disabled? I passed an S5 the other day and had no K band alerts from it at all.
Someone in my neighborhood as a Benz with the K band emitter. Turning POP off DID NOT help in this case.

I just saw an Audi A4 spewing K band all over the freeway.
Auto manufacturers intent is not to teach us how to drive or make a safer car / truck, it is to make money.
Accessories have always yielded a much higher gross margin than just the basic stripped car, and in and of itself the basic car is a bloated profit margin. The car manufacturers will keep adding accessories (radar and laser) ad nauseam in an effort to empty your wallet. Automotive News had an article on this ACC and other like accessories several years back, with the auto manufacturers starting with their high end car and proliferating down to the more economy minded models as the years progressed.

I just had a really annoying encounter with K-band from a high end Mercedes.
It was being inattentively driven (I wish there was a word to better convey her absolute lack of involvement in or awareness of the driving process--directed? guided? self-chauffeured?) by some oblivious bimbo who was so engrossed in her phone that even though she was the first car in the left turn lane, she managed to miss her entire green arrow in spite of all the honks behind her.
I had her pull in directly behind me at a drive-thru and my V1 (which, in hindsight, I realize had picked her up earlier as well) went bonkers--anywhere between 3 and 6 bogeys reported, varying from 1/4 to full strength.
I really hope there's some adjustment being made for this issue, as I expect it will only become more prevalent as the technology eventually makes its way down from the German luxury cars to everyone else.
It galls me that this problem is originating from what are typically thought of as driver's cars--Mercedes, Audi, and, to a lesser extent (though probably moreso in their own eyes), Infiniti.
I don't understand the physics, engineering, or logistic/technical side of all this, but isn't there some easy fix for this situation? Perhaps some sort of gentlemen's agreement (like the old one limiting top speeds to 155 due to the fact that at the time, no tires were widely available that could safely withstand such use) that onboard radar systems should use some band or frequency that isn't used by any of the radar gun manufacturers?
I realize that's probably only a temporary fix until the gun manufacturers pick up on it, but what about adding some additional element that could be worked in with all the different RD manufacturers to send along some sort of "hey, don't mind me" signal?
Can anyone who understands the science behind this better than I do come up with a reasonable, workable, affordable, permanent solution to this issue?
And can anyone figure out why RD manufacturers and auto companies haven't already tried to find a mutually acceptable solution?
