Is it possible to run a single LED from the accessory socket on the direct-wire power adapter so I can have a discrete visual alert in my helmet & if so can anyone tell me how please?

O divine art of subtlety and secrecy!
Through you we learn to be invisible, through you inaudible;
and hence hold the enemy's fate in our hands.

A single LED... not easily. The accessory port carries a serial data stream that would have to be decoded. Alternatively, you could tap the audio stream and drive an LED through a transistor, then the LED would light whenever the V1 beeps. That will tell you when there's an alert but no way to distinguish bands, etc.
Some guy on here posted a project where he decoded the various audio tones using a microcontroller and displayed them as different colors on a single LED, so that with practice you could "see" the alerts. I haven't seen him on in a while though.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If you want visual notification of alerts in your helmet, wouldn't it be easier to just purchase the Viz Alert or H.A.R.D kit?
