Default New Technology, Good or Bad?

I have finally settled on purchasing a V1 with the concealed display and carrying case. After seeing multiple police departments such as San Jose, Campbell, and the California Highway Patrol ramping up RADAR and LIDAR traps (most probably due to offset revenue loss both locally and state-wide), I consider the V1 a necessary investment and the most logical choice.

I typically do not speed intentionally. But it is common practice for the San Jose Police Department to strictly enforce Saratoga Ave. Example: Speed Zone drops from 40 MPH to 35 MPH at Saratoga & Kiely. If you are driving 42 MPH in a 40 MPH Zone prior to reaching Kiely ... then you are 2 MPH over; past Kiely ... then you are 7 MPH over. Coincidence that the police are sitting there with multiple motorcycle units and officers on foot hiding behind light poles shooting LIDAR? I think not.

So to my point, I believe the V1 is the best choice; however, I have some concerns regarding "New Technology" in the 21st century motoring world:

    (1) Can the V1 distinguish between Camera RADAR used to monitor traffic congestion on the South Bay Area's busy freeways and actual police RADAR?

    (2) Is the issue of distinguishing between Cruise Control RADAR / Lane Assist RADAR and actual police RADAR being addressed at Valentine? Can we expect a software fix in the not too distant future to differentiate between the two?

    (3) Is the issue of K-Band falsing being addressed?

    (4) Is the issue of distinguishing between LEDs on motor vehicle tail lights and actual police LIDAR being addressed?

It would be nice if Mike Valentine could post on these issues before I lay down roughly $500.

I appreciate any and all comments.

Generally good; depends on how it is used

    1) No. K-band is K-band

    2) Same as #1

    3) The V-1 can be set to initially 'mute' low-level K-band signals. This is configurable, including the volume of the muted alert

    4) Probably not like you'd prefer. The V-1 is THE best LIDAR detector out there and just like with radar, with exceptional sensitivity you get falses.

4a) While a V-1 may save you from a particular LIDAR trap, you can't expect an early warning in every encounter. Speeding in LIDAR country with only a detector is playing with fire. Spending $$$ on a jammer[before you get a ticket] yields much better return-on-investment than feeding county coffers, first

And the cost is closer to 400, not 500

I thought that too until I went back and read that he wants the concealed display and carrying case also.

When it comes to Camera Radar, I believe that at least sometimes (could be all of the time) they are polarized differently. This reduces the range of radar detectors that are optimized more for patrol car/handheld... which I think are polarized horizontally (sometimes circular)... although I am very forgetful and get the two confused sometimes.. so I could be wrong. Point is, reduced range with radar cameras. That is why having GPS is a nice feature. I'd suggest for you a Valentine 1 and an Escort SC55 or whatever it is named. The 9500ix is a good range detector though and it has GPS build in.

Look around and give things a test drive if you can.

And by Camera Radar, I mean photo radar. I don't think we have that in California. Arizona has it. :P

As far as filtering technology for false alerts... Valentine 1 and Escort have some sort of filtration system. I think Escort has TSR and Valentine 1 has some sort of logic analyzing system. The 9500ix (GPS) is great because it can lock em out all together.
