Thumbs up Re: Trip to the SW USA with my V-1 Soon!

Well, I made the trip from ABQ to Grand Canyon and back with no tickets.

On the way there on I-40, posted speed limit was 75mph. I set cruise at 83mph. My brothers, who are both city cops in ABQ, said AZ cops are pretty tight on speed limits so I did not push it. Some areas *were 65mph mainly at some cities along the route.

On the way west to Williams from ABQ, I encountered one Customs/Border Patrol 4x4 in median in NM. No radar alert. Came across only 2 AZ State Patrol on I-40. One in median with no radar on. Another eastbound with I/O. Picked him up about 3/4 initially. Then around 1/3 mile. Then he blasted me. No video as my camera was left in back seat.

No radar at all from Williams north to GC. I loved it though, as two lane highway was 65mph and not the usual 55mph we see here in Michigan.

In GC, came across Forest Park Service 4x4 driving around but radar not on. It almost looked like a Decatur x-band dash unit, but most likely an older kband.

On way back, came across 3 AZ State Patrol. One I/O kaband in median under bridge. I saw him before he blasted me. I was doing 78..down from 83. He seemed to be very selective as there was a couple cars ahead of me that he seemed not to care about. The other two cops were coming at me....about 10 miles apart. One I/O kaband a car ahead of me by 1/2 mile before he pulsed me. Again, my speed was good. Another cop has C/O kaband.

I wish I was rolling my camera in NM, though! I came across....approaching a curve....a kaband alert for about 5 seconds before a kband alert came up. The V-1 was indicating Ka alert more immediate with the front arrow flashing, bogey count 2, with kband light also lit. After about 1/2 mile, kaband went full alert as cop passed me up...then a few seconds later, kband alert was there with arrow forward flashing as ka rear arrow alert diminished. A few seconds later, no more ka alert, then kband was increasing dramatically. After another 3/4 mile or so, V-1 was full alert to kband, then a few seconds later, NM State Patrol passed by me in westbound lane. This would have made awesome video!

I DO have a video of Cop with car pulled over on westbound side as I went eastbound. After the above experience, I told my fiance to grab the camera! Video nothing spectacular, but I will download it soon!

Soooo...I was disappointed that on way to GC down I-40, I did not see more cops with the open freeway! But was happy with eastbound venture!

Sounds like you had a ton of action. Shame that you didn't have the camera running all the time

I've been thru AZ across that long stretch of I-40 and it's very tempting to "put the hammer down" due to some long stretches of long interstate. On my last 3 trips thru there noticed more AZ staties in the safety corridors and construction zones, other than that maybe a occasional sheriff patrol.

Good on ya and your V1

Nice! The video was cool too. Sounds like it made you more aware of the situation so that you wouldnt speed and get ticketed.
Sucks that AZ is tight about speed liimits... in NY they give you at least 8-10 on the interstates.
