    Default V1 the right choice?

    Hey everyone,

I'm new to the whole radar detector world and I wanted to hear from some professionals whether or not I made the right choice. I'm the first one in the family to really show interest in a radar detector and I dont typically speed but I looked at a radar detector as a great source of added protection. I just purchased my valentine one and its on the way in the mail. Did I do the right thing? Does anyone really regret purchasing a detector? At first i was skeptical of how much I would really use a detector but I figure its a nice thing to have. What does everyone else think. Thanks so much and look forward to hearing from you all

The V1 is a great radar detector but how much you will like it will depend on your driving conditions. Do you do mostly highway or city driving?

I do highway every opportunity I get but for around town sort of things I take street routes.

The V1 is great for highway driving and is the best highway RD available IMO. In the city though, it can drive you crazy because of false alerts coming from door openers and other radar-based sources. Depending on where you are located, you may have the luxury of turning X band (maybe even K band) off to help cut false alerts in the city.

You shouldn't have buyers remorse, you made a excellent choice w/the V1 IMO. It's a beast of a RD and will serve you well for all your highway driving needs.

    Good on ya/Getter done!!!

The principals of laser make your V1, every other V1 and every other laser detector useless. It's pretty much safe to say you'll never pick it up before it's too late. Laser detectors are like buzzers for when the airbags are about to go off. That is the bad news.

    The good news is....

No. A radar detector is useless against police laser. Usually, by the time you get a laser alert on your V1, the LEO already has your speed before you have time to react. Also, the V1 can completely miss laser shots:

What alerted to the laser shot above is a laser jammer and is our best defense against police laser. More info:

My 3.872 has a bad habit of giving false laser alerts. Things such as neon signs, certain vehicle's third brake lights, and Infiniti's laser cruise control systems can cause laser false alerts.
