Be careful! On Rt. 6 here on Cape Cod, I was (luckily) pulling into a rest area on my BMW F800 ST, so slowed way down. I had been manually ignoring a known drone blast on K band as I signaled to pull in and then noticed to my horror that the V1 was showing 2 K-band alerts now and one of them was revealed to be a white Dodge Charger, unmarked, parked within a few feet of the drone tower, light bar on the back shelf, Kustom K-band aimed out the back. Oops.

Unhappy Re: what causes sudden short K band alerts?

Boy u are not kidding about the K Band Alerts around Cleveland, Oh. There are so many that I ended up just turning off the V-1. I came in on Hy 90 at 2 am and the alerts would alternate between front and back every mile or so. On my way out of town I discovered the culprits mounted on the top of the light poles in the center divider. There is a white tube about 4" on diameter and about 2 Feet long. They appear to be hooked to a Small Solar Panel and attached to an antenna. They are aimed at the traffic lanes and appear to have a very narrow beam and very low power. As you stated you go from quiet to close to full alert back to quiet in a couple of seconds. Just enough to think LEO. In the sections of Hy-way with out light poles that are mounted to the Exit Signs. Look for the little solar panel and white tube.

As a side note, About 30 miles east of Toledo on the Toll Way a State Police Car with K band C/O had a New York Sedan pulled over. This is first time I have run across K band in a Ohio State Police Car. Encounters have been 98% laser with a few Ka encounters to date.

Well guys & gals. I just found the following link at the OEM Site of Applied Concepts Inc, parent company for Stalker. They will be traffic drones using Ka soon.

    You go it right Rocketman.

I had for a while there turned K off totally.

Now I run my V1 with K on automute, no breakthrough, 30 second delay. That has stopped the drones. But when I need full K coverage (leave Cleveland interstates) I switch it to "A" mode and I'm ready to go.

If Ka drones come around, detecting radar will really be set back a big step.

Don't turn K-band off! I was thinking the same as was my ME buddy when VR told him to mute the band.

Click on traffic speed and zoom in on Dayton for what is to come in a city near you:

The speed sensors are white tube looking with solar panel on top. They transmit wirelessly on AT&T network.

My buddy on I-480 south of Cleveland has been seeing these for months now. You'll have to mute K-band and mix in your own concoction on how long you want muting. It works really great as I am muted to 4 seconds but still pick up OSP firing radar stationary at oncoming traffic .9 mile over a slight rise.

On my route to work I get a couple drones near the beginning of travel and then a speed sign about 3/4 the way to work. I got used to turning down the volume and used to the low volume alerts and would mind my own business. Then one morning I suddenly noticed the man close to a drone, then I notice a different alert on the V1 - although I cruised on by, it was an eye opener because I was not paying attention because of being half asleep and used to drone signals along the stretch. Then it happened later at the speed sign but I caught the Ka and saw the man when I came around the curve. Now I keep a little more alert (for awhile anyway) wondering where tricky-dicky will pop up next. Will it be near a drone or in the clear - maybe time will tell.
