v1 tune up?

I was wondering if my v1 needs a tune up. I was driving on a straight road with a little curve there was a k band radar sign I picked it up at 2000ft give or take.
I talked to V1. they said unit little over 2yrs old should be tuned up anyways?

I wanted other people options are.

You’ve had your V1 for 2 years so you should be familiar with the various distances you get from X and K door openers or stationary speed sign sources? If you have not experienced any loss in range from those sources and you’re picking up all the bands your V1 should be OK.

That’s about a half mile range on the K band source you noted. Each situation is different, would need more info to try and make a call… was it a LEO, which way was his antenna facing, C/O or I/O, or a door opener, traffic, foliage in the area, etc.

Any doubt, just send it in, worse it could be is a $45 charge and shipping fee.

unit 2yrs old I had not had it for 2yrs. It was a speed sign with a radar

Jonny, what revision is your V1? It seems the later units should not need a tune up unless they are displaying an error.

I had my older unit serviced a year ago. I knew something wasn't quite right and sent it in. I guess the ealier units will require periodic service.

software is 3.871 V1 said it's 2yrs old.

Based upon what the others have said, you should have a newer unit that does NOT require periodic service unless you are getting a warning message.

You cannot use those speed sign boards as a measure of the unit's health - - those units drift off their specified frequency and the V1's range can appear very short. I've noticed the exact same in my town. My Escort picks up the sign board from 3/4 mile away while the V1 picked it up less than 1/4 mile from it.

I knew something wasn't quite right with my V1 when I sent it in cuz it wasn't picking up any shopping centers or anything even in A mode. It still seemed to work well against my LEOs. It stopped working entirely against the speed sign or didn't alert (on the wrong frequency) 'til I was literally next to it. I did send the unit in at that time and they took care of it for $0.

Radar behaves according to the laws of physics. So does Valentine One. There are reasons for everything that happens. Please consider the following possibilities.

If you don't get a radar alert from a radar car, was the radar turned on? Remember that Instant-on doesn't send out a detectable beam until it's triggered.
There are strong radars and weak ones. If you received a weak alert, could it have been a kind of radar that you're not used to?
The radar antenna can be pointed any direction inside the radar car. It doesn't have to point toward the front. Are you sure it was pointed at you? If it's turned away, its strength as you approach is much less.
Traffic, particularly trucks, between you and the radar can block the beam. Were you blocked?
The radar beam travels in a straight line. Was there a hill or building in the way?
Rain, moisture, or dust in the air can shorten radar range. Could this be the reason for the weak alert?
