Default Replacement lenses for my V1

I called V1 today and spoke to a woman (who I now believe is the reincarnated Atilla the Hun) to ask about buying the plastic lenses for my early V1.
Atilla told me "no, I had to send the unit in".

I'm an electronics engineer. I am more than capable of removing the 4 screws
on the bottom, lifting off the cover and swapping out the lenses.
In fact, I have the removed lenses in my hand as I write this.

    What is V1's problem?
I can call Maytag and order a transmission for my washing machine, call Panasonic and order a PC board for my plasma HDTV, and call Harley Davidson and order a primary gear....but I can't order $1 worth of plastic for a V1 radar detector?

I tried explaining to Atilla that the V1 was older and out of warranty.
She said "no"...I had to send it in.
She said "they would check it over and make sure it was performing correctly".
I told her "I didn't need or want it checked over to see if it was performing correctly".....all I wanted for the lenses.
    She wouldn't budge.

    Unbelievably bad customer service.
    Absolutely no excuse for it.

Hmm maybe if it was under warranty.... but its not. Maybe call at different times to try to get someone else on the phone. Maybe even say to the next person you called earlier and they said you can order it but you didn't have your card on you and now you do. But I don't know cus if its not something theyve ever sold as a part its probably not a simple click in their system to sell one.

Can I ask why you want to replace the lenses?

You get updates for life of the unit. So VR wants in for research. Might as well get an update too unless the plastice is falling off it should work fine.

I had my V1 fall off my bike and watched it in the RVM. I paid to fix it and it tested fine. Just habd it over to them to review and fix.

The detector belongs to me. It isn't a rental.
When I walk into a car dealer to buy a part for my car, they don't ask me why I want the part or refuse to sell the part to me unless I leave the car for them to research.
I hand them money, and they hand me the part.
Why I want the lenses shouldn't matter to anyone but me.

Sorry for the rant....it's just bad customer service.

I completely agree. I would suggest as said before trying to find someone different, maybe they can help. I understand this is a common suggestion but you can always ask for mike :/

Escort/Beltronics respond the same way. I was wanting to replace the covers on my V995 (scratches) and they do not sell the covers separate. Had to send it in and pay for repair.

    OP,

Im sure VR could tell you (why they won't send you a replacement lens), but then they would have to kill you (just joshing)

Who knows why they are being a PITA about it?

I know it is a pain to send in and be without but getting it back with a clean bill of health would satisfy me and the peace of mind would be worth it to me. I do understand your position and can see how it would be frustrating to someone as qualified as you are.
